Yokogawa SDV531-S24V5.5A
Product Introduction:
The SDV531-S24V5.5A is a direct-acting solenoid valve from Yokogawa’s SDV series, designed for on/off control of fluid media (air, water, oil, inert gas) in industrial automation and process control systems. The valve is normally closed (NC) and is energized by a 24 V DC coil drawing 5.5 A of current. It provides fast response for pneumatic and hydraulic control circuits.

- Coil Wire: Class H enamel-coated copper wire (180 °C rated)
- Connector: DIN 43650A (IP65 rated, with flying lead)
Structural Characteristics:
- Form Factor: Inline mounting (G 1/4″ threaded ports)
- Dimensions: Approximately 65 mm (L) × 30 mm (W) × 45 mm (H) (body only, excluding connector)
- Weight: Approximately 0.35 kg (with coil and connector)
- Mounting Orientation: Any position (coil must be oriented upward for optimal heat dissipation)
Operating Principle:
When 24 V DC is applied to the coil, an electromagnetic field is generated that pulls the brass armature upward against the force of a return spring. This opens the main orifice, allowing fluid to flow from the inlet (P) to the outlet (A). The exhaust port (R) is sealed. When power is removed, the return spring pushes the armature back to its seated position, closing the main orifice and opening the exhaust port to vent the outlet pressure. The direct-acting design means the solenoid force alone moves the armature — no process pressure is required for operation.
Advantages & Highlights:
- Zero Minimum Pressure: Operates from vacuum to 10 bar — ideal for low-pressure and vacuum applications
- Fast Switching: ≤ 20 ms — among the fastest in the direct-acting class
- Stainless Steel Body: SS316 construction provides excellent corrosion resistance for harsh process environments
- High Coil Power (132 W): Ensures reliable actuation even in high-temperature or high-viscosity fluid conditions
Applicable Industries:
- Pneumatic Automation (Factory Automation)
- Chemical Processing (Solenoid Valve Manifolds)
- Oil & Gas (Instrument Air Control)
- Pharmaceutical (Clean-in-Place Systems)
- Food & Beverage (Sanitary Fluid Control)
- Water Treatment (Chemical Dosing)
Installation Requirements:
- Mount with coil facing upward — horizontal or inverted mounting reduces heat dissipation and may cause coil overheating
- Use shielded cable for coil wiring; maximum cable length: 50 m (to minimize voltage drop at 5.5 A)
- Install a flyback diode (1N4007 or similar) across the coil terminals to suppress back-EMF voltage spikes (can exceed 200 V)
- Apply PTFE thread seal tape to all G 1/4″ port connections
- Ensure ambient temperature does not exceed +60 °C near the coil
Usage Precautions:
- Never operate the valve without the flyback diode — the back-EMF spike will destroy the driving transistor/relay
- Do not exceed 10 bar (1 MPa) operating pressure — the valve is rated for 0–10 bar only
- Do not use with media containing abrasive particles — will damage the FKM seals and brass armature
- The coil draws 5.5 A continuously while energized — ensure the power supply can deliver ≥ 6 A continuously
- Do not cycle the valve faster than 1 cycle per second — the coil will overheat
