YOKOGAWA PK200-A73/FF1/AM
Description:
The PK200-A73/FF1/AM is a smart temperature transmitter from the PK200 series. The “A73” indicates a J-type thermocouple input (JIS standard), “FF1” specifies a 4–20 mA DC output with HART 7 protocol, and “AM” denotes aluminum junction box mounting (head-mount type alternative). It converts thermocouple signals into a standardized 4–20 mA output with digital HART communication.

Working Principle:
The thermocouple generates a millivolt signal proportional to the temperature difference between the measuring junction and the reference (cold) junction. The transmitter measures the thermocouple voltage, applies cold junction compensation using an internal temperature sensor, linearizes the signal, and outputs a proportional 4–20 mA DC current. HART communication superimposes digital data on the analog signal using frequency-shift keying (FSK) at 1200/2200 Hz.
Advantages:
- High accuracy (±0.1%) suitable for precise process control
- HART communication enables remote diagnostics without process shutdown
- Robust aluminum construction for harsh industrial environments
- Wide ambient temperature range (-40°C to +85°C)
- SIL 2 certified for safety instrumented systems
Applicable Industries:
- Oil Refining and Petrochemical
- Chemical Processing
- Power Generation (Boiler, Turbine monitoring)
- Steel and Metals
- Food Processing
Installation Requirements:
- Mount the transmitter at the thermowell or directly in the process using AM-type junction box
- Use extension grade thermocouple wire matching J-type specifications
- Ensure proper cold junction compensation by keeping the terminal block at a stable temperature
- Maintain minimum 300 mm straight pipe run upstream of the thermowell for accurate flow measurement
- Ground the transmitter housing to the plant grounding system
Precautions:
- Verify thermocouple polarity before connection (positive/negative leads must match)
- Do not exceed the maximum process temperature of +850°C for J-type thermocouples (continuous use limited to +750°C per IEC 60584)
- Ensure the loop resistance does not exceed 600 Ω at the specified supply voltage
- Use shielded twisted-pair cable and ground the shield at the control system end only
