YOKOGAWA MW100-E-1D-SS3/M1/M3

Product Introduction:
The MW100-E-1D-SS3/M1/M3 is a digital weight transmitter from Yokogawa’s MW100 series, designed for weighing applications in hazardous (explosive) areas. The E suffix denotes explosion-proof (Ex d) certification. The 1D option indicates 1-channel (single weight) digital indication/transmissionSS3 specifies 316L stainless steel housing for maximum corrosion resistance. M1/M3 are specific output/communication options.

Working Principle:
Load cells (strain gauge type) produce a millivolt signal proportional to applied force (typically 2 mV/V at full scale). The transmitter provides a regulated 10 V DC excitation to the load cells. The millivolt signal is amplified by a 24-bit sigma-delta A/D converter with programmable gain. The microprocessor applies linearization, temperature compensation, zero tracking, and filtering to produce a stable weight reading. The result is displayed on the LED and transmitted as 4–20 mA or Modbus RTU to external systems.

Advantages & Highlights:

  • 316L stainless steel — ideal for food, pharmaceutical, and chemical weighing in corrosive environments
  • Ex d IIC T6 — highest explosion protection level, suitable for gas and dust hazardous areas
  • 24-bit resolution — readable to 0.001% of full scale
  • RS-485 Modbus — easy integration with existing plant networks
  • Auto zero tracking eliminates need for manual zeroing in temperature-varying environments

Applicable Industries:

  • Chemical & Petrochemical (hazardous area weighing)
  • Pharmaceutical (powder/granule weighing in clean/corrosive environments)
  • Food & Beverage (washdown-capable stainless steel)
  • Mining & Minerals (explosive atmosphere weighing)
  • Paint & Coating (solvent-resistant)
  • Waste Management (truck/hopper scales)

Installation Requirements:

  • Mount in 1/16 DIN cutout (96 × 48 mm) with gasket seal
  • Use shielded cable for load cell connections — max. 30 m recommended
  • Excite load cells with transmitter power only — do not use external excitation
  • Ground the housing to equipment earth with ≤ 1 Ω resistance
  • Ensure cable gland torque: 10 N·m for Ex d integrity

Usage Precautions:

  • Do not open housing in hazardous area — all servicing must be done in safe area or by certified personnel
  • Verify Ex certification matches your zone classification before installation
  • Do not exceed 4 load cells (350 Ω each) in parallel — will overload excitation circuit
  • Calibrate with certified test weights at installation and annually thereafter
  • Do not apply shock loads exceeding 150% of full scale — will damage load cells
