PILZ 301131
Product Name
PSS SB BRIDGE safe bridge module for SafetyBUS p
Product Introduction
This Pilz module is a safe bridge unit for SafetyBUS p networks. It couples two SafetyBUS p segments, repeats and conditions safety communication, and supports 32-bit data handling for decentralized PSS safety systems. The unit is used to extend, separate or restructure safety bus topologies without losing certified safety communication.

Functional Features
Dual SafetyBUS p ports allow segment bridging, network extension and physical separation of safety subgroups. The 32-bit structure supports higher data throughput than narrow legacy bridge nodes. Status and diagnostic interfaces help locate communication interruptions. Cage clamp and screw terminal options adapt to existing cabinet wiring standards.
Application Scenarios
Distributed SafetyBUS p safety networks, large PSS installations with several I/O clusters, separation of controller-side and field-side bus segments, redundant or extended topology planning, and retrofit projects where older PSS SB nodes must remain interoperable.
Performance Parameters
The module operates as a passive or active safety bridge depending on system configuration and firmware. It maintains SafetyBUS p telegram transfer between the two interfaces, supports assigned node addresses and provides diagnostic reporting through the PSS engineering environment.
Material Composition
Flame-retardant industrial plastic housing, multilayer safety-rated PCB, cage clamp or screw terminal metal inserts, copper signal traces and protective coating suitable for control-cabinet use.
Structural Characteristics
The enclosure includes two SafetyBUS p interface sections, terminal blocks for 24 VDC and bus lines, LED or system diagnostic indicators per the installed firmware, and a DIN-mounting profile. Internal isolation and filtering separate the two bus ports.
Working Principle
The bridge receives SafetyBUS p telegrams on one interface, conditions and forwards them to the second interface according to the configured network topology. Safety addresses, test data and diagnostic messages pass through the 32-bit data path. Power supply faults, cable breaks or incompatible termination are reported to the safety controller.
Installation Requirements
Install inside an IP20 control cabinet on 35 mm DIN rail or equivalent mounting. Connect 24 VDC with correct polarity and adequate current reserve. Use approved SafetyBUS p cables, Sub-D or fiber couplers as defined by the system design. Set network addresses and termination resistors according to the PSS SB Bridge installation manual. Verify both segment connections before applying bus communication.
Usage Notes
Do not operate without proper bus termination because incomplete termination causes packet errors and node dropouts. Confirm firmware and hardware revision compatibility with the existing PSS project before replacement. Because the product is discontinued, validate spare units by serial number and documented test procedure. Never bridge safety segments with non-certified network hardware.
