Yokogawa PFCD-S5520

Product Overview:
The PFCD-S5520 is a 5.5-inch color TFT paperless recorder and controller from Yokogawa’s PFCD series. It replaces traditional chart recorders by digitally recording, displaying, and controlling process data on an internal memory without paper. The unit supports up to 12 measurement channels with advanced math, alarm, and communication functions.

  • Trend display: Real-time and historical trend graphs on the 5.5-inch color display
  • Bar graph display: Multi-channel bar graph for quick process overview
  • Event recording: Timestamped event logging with up to 1000 events
  • Password protection: Multi-level access control (operator, engineer, administrator)
  • Data export: USB flash drive support for CSV data export
  • Scheduled recording: Time-based and event-triggered recording modes

Working Principle:
The PFCD-S5520 uses a 32-bit RISC processor with an ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) for each input channel. Process data is sampled, converted to engineering units via stored calibration tables, displayed on the TFT LCD, and written to internal flash memory in cyclic blocks. The recorder operates independently of a host PC, storing data locally. Communication with external systems uses Modbus RTU/TCP over RS-485 or Ethernet.

Advantages and Highlights:

  • 5.5-inch full-color TFT display provides superior visibility compared to monochrome recorders
  • NEMA 4 / IP66 front panel allows direct washdown mounting in harsh environments
  • Up to 12 channels reduces the number of instruments needed on a panel
  • Built-in math and totalizer functions eliminate need for external PLC calculations
  • Ethernet connectivity enables remote monitoring and data retrieval
  • Paperless operation eliminates paper costs, storage, and chart changes

Applicable Industries:

  • Oil and Gas (upstream, midstream, downstream)
  • Chemical Processing
  • Power Generation and Distribution
  • Water Treatment
  • Food and Beverage
  • Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
  • Steel and Metals

Installation Requirements:

  • Cut panel opening to 138 mm × 138 mm for flush mounting
  • Secure with 4 × M4 screws using the mounting flange
  • Connect power to 100-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz with proper grounding
  • Use shielded cables for all analog input connections
  • Terminate RS-485 communication with 120Ω termination resistor at the last device
  • Connect Ethernet using standard CAT5e or CAT6 cable

Usage Precautions:

  • Do not apply input signals exceeding the maximum rated input for each channel type
  • Ensure ambient temperature remains between 0°C and +50°C
  • Perform initial calibration after installation using a precision signal source
  • Back up recorded data to USB flash drive before the internal memory becomes full
  • Do not expose the unit to direct sunlight or condensing humidity beyond rated specifications
  • Use surge protection on all communication lines in electrically noisy environments
