YOKOGAWA F3RP61-2L
Product Overview:
The F3RP61-2L is a 2-channel relay output module for Yokogawa’s F3 (FAST/TOOLS) Series PLC. The 61 indicates the RP61 series (relay output, 2-channel). The -2L suffix confirms 2 relay outputs with LED indicators per channel. This module provides dry contact (Form A) relay outputs for switching AC and DC loads in industrial control applications.

Functional Features:
- 2 independent Form A (SPST-NO) relay contacts per module
- LED indicator per channel — shows relay ON/OFF status
- Common terminal for each channel — allows wiring flexibility (NO or NC configuration)
- Backplane bus powered — no external power supply required for coil
- Supports both AC and DC load switching with AgSnO₂ contacts for arc suppression
Working Principle:
The F3 CPU sends a digital ON/OFF signal via the backplane bus to the module’s output driver circuit. The driver energizes a 24 VDC coil wrapped around a ferromagnetic armature. When energized, the armature pulls the moving contact against the fixed contact (NO), closing the circuit. When de-energized, a spring returns the armature to the open position. The AgSnO₂ contact material provides low contact resistance and high arc-quenching capability for reliable switching of inductive loads (solenoids, contactor coils, indicator lamps).
Advantages:
- Contact isolation from CPU — protects PLC from load-side transients and faults
- AgSnO₂ contacts provide long life and low contact resistance compared to standard AgNi contacts
- LED status indication simplifies troubleshooting
- Universal AC/DC switching — one module type for all load types
Applicable Industries:
- Machine Automation — solenoid valve control, motor starter switching, indicator lamps
- HVAC — damper actuator control, fan relay switching
- Packaging Machines — pneumatic valve and heater relay control
- Material Handling — conveyor motor and gate relay control
Installation Requirements:
- Insert into F3 CPU backplane slot designated for output modules
- Wire load between COM and NO terminals (or COM and NC for normally-closed operation)
- Install flyback diode (for DC loads) or snubber circuit (for AC inductive loads) across the load to suppress back-EMF
- Do not exceed 2 A per channel under any condition
Usage Precautions:
- Maximum 2 A per channel — exceeding this rating will weld contacts and destroy the relay
- For inductive loads, always use a snubber (RC) or varistor to protect contacts from arc damage
- Do not switch capacitive loads > 100 µF — inrush current may damage contacts
- Replace module if LED indicator fails to illuminate — indicates internal driver fault
