YOKOGAWA DX2020-3-4-2

Product Overview:
The DX2020-3-4-2 is a paperless (chartless) recorder from Yokogawa’s DX2000 series. The model code breaks down as: DX2020 = base model with 20 recording channels capability; 3 = 3-slot main unit; 4 = 4 analog input channels; 2 = 2 alarm output channels. This instrument replaces traditional chart recorders with digital recording, display, and data management.

Functional Features:

  • Simultaneous recording of up to 20 process variables on one unit
  • Built-in math functions: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, square root, moving average
  • Event recording: captures timestamp of alarm events, operator actions, and setpoint changes
  • USB data export: data can be transferred to PC via USB mass storage
  • Password protection: restricts parameter changes to authorized personnel
  • Multi-language display: English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese

Working Principle:
The DX2020 samples all analog input channels sequentially via a multiplexed 16-bit ADC. Each channel’s signal is converted to a digital value, scaled to engineering units using user-configured range parameters, and stored in circular buffer memory. Data is written to internal flash memory with timestamps. The LCD display shows real-time trends, bar graphs, and numerical values. Alarm logic compares each channel’s value against user-set high/low limits and triggers the 2 alarm output relays when limits are exceeded.

Advantages:

  • Eliminates consumable recording paper — reduces long-term operating cost
  • High-resolution color display provides superior readability compared to paper charts
  • Data export capability enables seamless integration with SCADA and historian systems
  • Compact 1/8 DIN front panel size — fits standard instrument cutouts

Applicable Industries:

  • Chemical & Petrochemical — multi-variable process trend recording
  • Pharmaceutical — GMP-compliant batch data recording
  • Food & Beverage — HACCP temperature and process recording
  • Power Generation — turbine and boiler parameter logging
  • Water/Wastewater — remote station data acquisition

Installation Requirements:

  • Cut 92 mm × 92 mm panel opening for DIN mounting
  • Use shielded twisted-pair cables for all analog inputs
  • Ground the chassis to facility earth ground
  • Configure communication parameters (baud rate, Modbus address) before network connection

Usage Precautions:

  • Do not exceed input signal limits — overvoltage on voltage inputs may damage the ADC
  • For thermocouple inputs, use correct type wire — mismatched thermocouple type causes measurement error
  • Backup data regularly via USB — internal memory is not infinite
  • Do not operate in ambient temperature exceeding +55°C
