Yokogawa CACP-JU22D3A

Product Introduction:
The CACP-JU22D3A is an 8-channel analog input card for the CENTUM VP distributed control system (DCS) by Yokogawa. It accepts 4–20mA DC current inputs from field transmitters and converts them to digital values for the DCS controller. The model code JU22D3A identifies the specific channel configuration and termination type.

Detailed content

Technical Specifications:

  • Number of Channels: 8 channels
  • Input Signal: 4–20mA DC (2-wire transmitter)
  • Input Impedance: 250 Ω per channel
  • A/D Resolution: 16-bit
  • Conversion Time1 ms per channel (8 channels total: 8 ms)
  • Isolation: 250V AC between channels, 500V AC between card and backplane
  • Common Mode Rejection Ratio (CMRR): ≥ 120 dB (50/60Hz)
  • Power Consumption: ≤ 2.5W per card
  • Operating Temperature: 0°C to +55°C
  • Housing: Eurocard format, 160 mm × 233 mm

Functional Features:

  • Supports 2-wire and 4-wire transmitter configurations
  • Programmable input range: 4–20mA, 0–20mA, 0–10mA (via group settings)
  • Burnout detection (high/low) with alarm notification
  • Per-channel calibration (zero and span) via CENTUM VP engineering station
  • LED indicators per channel for status monitoring (green = normal, red = alarm)
  • Hot-swappable design (with system in RUN mode, depending on configuration)

Structural Characteristics:

  • Form factor: Eurocard (IEEE 299), 3U height
  • Connector: Spring-clip terminal block (removable)
  • Weight: approximately 0.4 kg
  • Status LEDs: 8 channel indicators + power/communication LEDs

Working Principle:
Each of the 8 input channels feeds the 4–20mA signal through a 250 Ω precision resistor, converting current to a 1–5V voltage. This voltage is then digitized by a 16-bit successive approximation A/D converter. The digital value is transmitted to the CENTUM VP controller via the Vnet/IP backbone network or local bus. The card is powered from the CENTUM VP card cage backplane.

Advantages & Highlights:

  • High-speed scanning (1 ms/ch) enables fast process control loops
  • Excellent noise rejection with 120 dB CMRR
  • Per-channel diagnostics (burnout, open wire, short circuit)
  • Fully compatible with CENTUM VP R5.04 and later
  • Hot-swap capability minimizes system downtime during maintenance

Applicable Industries:
Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Chemical, Power Generation, Pulp & Paper, Steel, Pharmaceutical

Installation Requirements:

  • Install in CENTUM VP card cage (e.g., VB3201, VB4101)
  • Slot assignment configured via System View engineering software
  • Use shielded twisted-pair cable (AWG 22–18 recommended)
  • Terminate cable shields at the control room end only
  • Ensure card cage is grounded per IEEE 1100 (Emerald Book) standards

Usage Precautions:

  • Do not apply voltage greater than 30V DC to any input terminal
  • Verify channel configuration in System View matches physical wiring before commissioning
  • Replace terminal block connector carefully; do not force insertion
  • Maintain card cage ambient temperature below +55°C
  • Perform periodic calibration per Yokogawa recommended schedule (annual)
