Siemens 6GK5204-0BA00-2AF2

Product Name
SCALANCE XF204 managed flat Industrial Ethernet switch.
Product Introduction
This flat-form managed switch is designed for control-cabinet PROFINET networks with limited width. It provides four 10/100 Mbps copper ports, redundant 24 V DC power, PROFINET IO device integration and managed redundancy functions for compact machine cells and distributed I/O clusters.

Detailed content

Technical Specifications
Copper ports are 4 x 10/100 Mbps RJ45. Redundant power input is 24 V DC with supported range 19.2 V DC to 30 V DC. PROFINET IO device functionality is included. Management includes Web-Based Management, SNMP, DCP and LLDP. Redundancy includes MRP and HRP ring functions. C-PLUG configuration storage is optional. Error signaling contact and set button are provided. Electronic manual is supplied on CD-ROM. Protection rating is IP20. Flat housing width is 75 mm and depth is 73 mm. Weight is approximately 0.3 kg. Vertical DIN-rail operating temperature is 0 °C to +60 °C. Horizontal mounting orientation is restricted to 0 °C to +40 °C in flat-housing thermal configurations.
Functional Features
The switch provides managed Layer 2 switching, VLAN segmentation, QoS prioritization, port diagnostics, PROFINET device alarms, redundant power monitoring and rapid configuration restore using C-PLUG. The slim body fits beside ET 200 stations and narrow control-panel rails.
Application Scenarios
Compact PROFINET I/O cabinets, ET 200SP or ET 200S clusters, packaging machines, small ring networks, automotive sublines, food and beverage panels, material handling control boxes and retrofit cabinets with limited DIN space.
Performance Parameters
All four RJ45 ports support 10/100 Mbps auto-negotiation. MRP ring reconvergence provides fast recovery for certified topologies. Managed diagnostics report port link state, error counters and power-fault conditions. The flat design reduces panel width while retaining full managed-switch configuration.
Material Composition
Enclosure uses industrial metal or reinforced polymer housing according to production variant, with IP20 touch protection. Internal circuits use FR-4 PCB, Ethernet switch controller, RJ45 magnetics and redundant-power conditioning components. DIN clip uses plated steel.
Structural Characteristics
The flat body mounts on 35 mm DIN rail or wall bracket. Front panel provides four RJ45 ports, status LEDs, set button and error-contact terminal. Power terminal block supports dual 24 V DC feeds. C-PLUG slot stores configuration independently of the switch firmware.
Working Principle
The switch forwards Ethernet frames based on MAC learning and VLAN rules. PROFINET IO stacks exchange cyclic data with the controller. MRP or HRP monitors ring links and reroutes traffic after a break. Web, SNMP and DCP interfaces provide configuration, asset discovery and diagnostics. The error contact reports power or system faults to external alarms.
Installation Requirements
Mount on 35 mm DIN rail inside a dry control cabinet. Connect two independent 24 V DC supplies for true redundancy. Use Siemens FastConnect or approved industrial RJ45 cables with shield termination. Ground the cabinet and switch mounting plane according to EMC rules. Reserve front access for LEDs, set button and patch cords.
Usage Precautions
Keep both power feeds independent; a single feed removes redundancy. Do not exceed 60 °C for vertical DIN mounting or 40 °C for horizontal flat mounting. Save configuration to C-PLUG before maintenance. Use shielded cables in high-EMI areas. Avoid physical cover obstruction of LEDs and ventilation slots.
