Schmersal AZM160-22YP

Product Name: Schmersal AZM160-22YP solenoid safety interlock switch
Product Overview: This device locks machine guards with an electromagnetic latch and monitors door position with forced-disconnect safety contacts. It is built for perimeter guards, press doors, robot cells and process enclosures.

Detailed content

Technical Specifications: The switch provides 2 normally open safety contacts and, depending on contact block, 1 auxiliary changeover contact. Solenoid voltage is 24 V DC. Holding force reaches 3500 N in the locked state. Protection rating is IP67. Enclosure temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C. Cable entry follows the YP configuration, commonly M20 glands or PG glands.
Functional Features: The unit supports power-to-lock or power-to-unlock operation. Forced disconnect contacts provide validated open-circuit behavior. The zinc die-cast body resists oil, dust, moisture and mechanical impact. Safety performance meets PL e under ISO 13849-1 and SIL 3 under IEC 62061.
Performance Parameters: Rated thermal current is 4 A, contact rating up to 250 V AC/DC depending on load. Mechanical service life exceeds 1,000,000 operations under specified guard cycling.
Material Composition: The housing uses zinc die-cast with coated surface. Actuator and fixing elements use steel or stainless steel. Seals use oil-resistant elastomers.
Structural Characteristics: The body provides four M6 mounting points, an integrated solenoid, a coded or standard actuator interface according to the YP variant, and status indication through auxiliary contacts or external indicators.
Working Principle: When the guard closes, the actuator enters the switch and the solenoid latches the guard. Safety contacts remain closed while the guard is locked and the safety circuit is healthy. On authorized release, the solenoid unlocks and the contacts open to stop the machine before the guard can be opened.
Installation Requirements: Mount the switch on the fixed frame and the actuator on the moving guard with correct alignment and gap defined by the actuator type. Connect safety contacts to a suitable safety relay or controller. Earth the enclosure and use appropriate cable glands for the operating environment.
Usage Precautions: Define unlock behavior for power loss before commissioning. Do not bypass safety contacts with jumpers or external links. Test the guard lock and release function on the planned maintenance interval and replace the unit if holding force degrades.
