Photonetics 3646HE1540

Product Introduction
The 3646HE1540 is a plug-in external-cavity tunable laser module for the Tunics-OM optical test platform. It generates stable single-mode optical signals across the 1500 to 1570 nanometer band and supports dense wavelength-division-multiplexing component testing, amplifier characterization, and laboratory research.

Detailed content

Technical Specifications
Wavelength range is 1500 to 1570 nanometers. Wavelength resolution is 0.01 nanometer. Optical output is 0 decibel-milliwatt standard, with optional +6 decibel-milliwatt and +10 decibel-milliwatt versions. Power stability is ±0.01 decibel. Side-mode suppression exceeds 60 decibels. Compatible fiber is standard single-mode SMF-28. Operating temperature is 15 to 40 degrees Celsius. The module operates from the host Tunics-OM mainframe power and control bus.
Functional Features
The module provides continuous tuning, automatic power control, narrow linewidth, high wavelength accuracy, and an output isolator option. Modulation input supports external intensity modulation. Mainframe software controls wavelength sweep, power level, and calibration routines.
Material Composition
The housing uses metal and epoxy-sealed optical components. Internal construction includes an external-cavity grating, laser diode, thermoelectric cooler, and optical isolator. Rear interface uses gold-plated backplane connectors.
Structural Characteristics
The unit is a single-width mainframe plug-in card with front optical output connector, rear bus connector, and integrated tuning mechanics. Option codes define output power, polarization-maintaining fiber, and extended wavelength range.
Working Principle
The external-cavity laser locks wavelength through a precision grating and feedback control. The driver regulates diode current and temperature to maintain target wavelength and output power. The mainframe controller sends digital setpoints and reads back status.
Installation Requirements
Install only with the host Tunics-OM mainframe powered off. Insert the module into the designated laser slot until the rear connector seats fully. Connect SMF-28 or specified fiber to the front output using cleaned connectors. Activate mainframe and run wavelength self-calibration.
Usage Precautions
Clean all optical connectors before mating. Never operate with contaminated jumpers. Avoid electrostatic discharge when handling the rear interface. Do not remove or insert the module while the mainframe is energized.
