PARKER 8903-AI-00

Product Name
AC890 high-resolution analog input and encoder option module.
Product Introduction
This plug-in option card adds a high-resolution optically isolated analog input and incremental encoder interface to Parker AC890/890 series drives. It is used for precise speed setpoint, analog feedback and encoder-based closed-loop control.

Detailed content

Technical Specifications
  • Analog input: 1 channel, differential, optically isolated
  • Input range: -10 to +10 V per drive-option record; some 890 documents list ±11 V differential
  • Resolution: 15 bits plus sign
  • Input impedance: approximately 14 kΩ per 890 document
  • Low-pass filter: approximately 3 kHz per 890 document
  • Encoder interface: incremental input and output, RS422/RS485 compatible
  • Encoder frequency: up to 250 kHz per 890 document
  • Encoder supply: 5–24 V auxiliary depending on configuration
  • Drive compatibility: AC890 firmware 2.5 and later, 3.5 and later for selected features; verify 20.x incompatibility notes
  • Operating temperature: 0°C to +45°C typical drive-integrated range
Functional Features
  • High-resolution analog setpoint without external scaling hardware
  • Optical isolation for noise immunity in drive cabinets
  • Encoder decoding, retransmission and position/speed feedback
  • Direct slot integration with AC890 control board
Application Scenarios
  • AC variable frequency drives requiring accurate analog speed command
  • Closed-loop motor control with incremental encoder feedback
  • Winders, conveyors, test stands and precision manufacturing drives
  • Retrofit of AC890 standalone or common-bus systems needing high-resolution I/O
Performance Parameters
  • Analog linearity governed by 15-bit plus sign conversion
  • Encoder output current per channel and cable distance must follow Parker wiring rules; 890 documents list up to ±100 mA output and 150 m cable examples
  • Option slot power and drive firmware determine available functions
Material Composition
  • Industrial PCB with precision analog front end
  • Optocouplers and differential line transceivers
  • Plug-in connector hardware and encoder D-sub or terminal interface
Structural Characteristics
  • Single-slot drive option card
  • Analog terminal block, encoder D-sub or terminal positions, and auxiliary supply terminals
  • Designed for insertion into designated AC890 option port
Working Principle
The analog input is isolated, filtered and converted to a high-resolution digital value used as speed setpoint or control variable. Encoder pulses are decoded through RS422/RS485 circuitry, providing feedback to the drive and optional retransmission to external controllers.
Installation Requirements
  • Install only with AC890 firmware versions approved for 8903-AI-00
  • Seat the card fully in the assigned option slot before applying control power
  • Use shielded analog and encoder cables with proper drain connections
  • Configure analog scaling, encoder type and firmware options in Parker drive software
Usage Precautions
  • Never insert or remove the card with drive control or main power energized
  • Confirm firmware compatibility before commissioning to avoid option faults
  • Ground encoder cable shield at the designated chassis point to prevent noise
  • Do not exceed analog input voltage, encoder supply or cable length ratings
