Honeywell 8C-PAONA1

Product Name: Series 8 16-Channel 4–20 mA Analog Output Module (Non-HART, G3 coated)
Product Introduction: The 8C-PAONA1 (part number 51454469-175) is a high-precision 16-channel analog output module in the Experion PKS Series 8 I/O architecture. It converts the C300 controller’s digital control algorithms into accurate 4–20 mA analog signals to drive final control elements such as valve positioners, variable-speed drives, and dampers. This “175” variant carries factory G3 conformal coating for corrosive-atmosphere protection.

Application Scenarios: Driving analog final-control elements in continuous process industries — valve positioners, damper actuators, variable-speed drives, and recording/indicating devices — particularly in chemically aggressive atmospheres requiring G3 corrosion protection.
Structural & Material Characteristics: The module is built on a coated PCB housed in the Series 8 slim vertical form factor. It integrates D/A conversion, galvanic isolation, and per-channel safe-state logic. It mates with a Series 8 IOTA which provides field wiring termination and redundant I/O Link connectivity.
Working Principle: The C300 controller sends digital output codes over the I/O Link. The module’s D/A converter translates each code into a proportional 4–20 mA current. Onboard circuitry regulates the current through the field load (50–800 Ω), maintaining the setpoint against varying load resistance up to the 16 V compliant voltage limit. Self-diagnostics continuously monitor each channel’s integrity.
Installation Requirements:
  • Mount on a compatible Series 8 AO IOTA (redundant IOTA recommended for high-availability applications)
  • Provide 24 VDC system power via the IOTA bus
  • For redundant operation, install a second 8C-PAONA1 on the same IOTA
  • Verify the load resistance of each field device falls within 50–800 Ω at the supplied voltage
Usage Notes:
  • This module is NON-HART. “Smart” valve positioners will still respond to the 4–20 mA signal, but the DCS cannot read HART digital diagnostics. For HART capability, use the 8C-PAOHA1 which is backward-compatible on the same IOTA (module configuration in Experion Control Builder must be updated).
  • Do not exceed 22 V open-circuit or 16 V compliant voltage
  • Hot-swap is supported, but confirm redundancy status before extracting a module in an active control loop
