FIREYE 85UVF1A-1QD

Product Name
Phoenix II integrated ultraviolet flame scanner.
Product Introduction
This scanner detects ultraviolet radiation from fossil-fuel, gas, oil and low-NOx burner flames. It combines a solid-state UV sensor, signal processor, flame relay and self-diagnostics in one cast-aluminum housing, eliminating the need for a separate flame amplifier.

Detailed content

Technical Specifications
  • UV detection band: 295–340 nm
  • Power input: 24 VDC nominal, approximately 200 mA
  • Flame relay: SPST normally open, automatically set ON/OFF thresholds
  • Fault relay: SPST normally closed
  • Analog output: 4–20 mA optically isolated flame strength signal
  • Electrical connection: 8-pin quick-disconnect with compatible multi-conductor cable
  • Flame failure response time: selectable, commonly 1–4 s depending on configuration
  • Ambient temperature: -40°C to +65°C
  • Internal scanner temperature rating: up to +82°C
  • Humidity: 0–95% relative, non-condensing
Functional Features
  • Microprocessor-based UV flame recognition with flicker analysis
  • Automatic sensor gain selection and target flame learning
  • LED status for flame signal, relay state, ready, fault and mode
  • Full self-diagnostics and electronic self-check
  • Integrated relay operation without external flame amplifier
Application Scenarios
  • Industrial gas and oil burners
  • Duct burners and process heaters
  • Refinery process burners and waste-gas units
  • Incinerators, low-NOx burners and boiler flame safeguard systems
Performance Parameters
  • Relay contact rating: up to 2 A at 30 VDC or 2 A at 230 VAC resistive
  • Analog load capability: up to 750 ohms for 4–20 mA loop
  • Purge air: approximately 4 SCFM clean dry air at standard mounting flange; higher airflow for hot, dusty or high-radiation environments
  • Approvals: FM, UL/c and CE; selected versions support ATEX or Division/Zone ratings
Material Composition
  • Housing: cast aluminum with gray polyester powder coat
  • Optical window and UV sensor assembly rated for combustion ultraviolet band
  • Quick-disconnect connector with shielded multi-conductor cable
Structural Characteristics
  • Integrated scanner body with sight pipe or fiber-optic sighting options
  • 8-pin disconnect for power, relay and analog signal
  • Gasketed enclosure design for combustion environment service
Working Principle
UV emissions from the flame strike the solid-state sensor. The processor evaluates intensity and flicker frequency, compares the result with stored target characteristics, energizes the flame relay when a valid flame exists, and activates the fault relay when detection, self-check or hardware conditions are abnormal.
Installation Requirements
  • Mount with proper sight pipe, fiber optic assembly or flange per Fireye orientation drawing
  • Supply clean, dry purge air where furnace heat, dust or radiation demands cooling
  • Use shielded cable and correct 8-pin quick-disconnect wiring
  • Verify optical path is free from obstructions, deposits and foreign light sources
Usage Precautions
  • Never operate without required purge air when specified by the burner layout
  • Keep optical window clean; contaminated optics reduce UV sensitivity
  • Test flame relay and fault relay during startup and periodic combustion safety inspections
  • Replace only with same model and FFRT configuration approved for the burner management system
