B&R X20DO9332
Product Series: B&R X20 Series (Compact I/O System)
Product Introduction:
The B&R X20DO9332 is an 8-channel digital output module in sink (NPN) configuration from the B&R X20 compact I/O system. It provides 8 sink outputs at 24 VDC, 0.5 A per channel, switching the load to ground. This is the counterpart to the X20DC2398 and is designed for applications requiring NPN/sink-type switching, which is the standard in European industrial automation.

Functional Features:
- 8 sink-type (NPN) digital outputs — switches load to GND
- Individual channel short-circuit protection
- Aggregate overcurrent protection (4 A total)
- Thermal shutdown protection
- LED indicators per channel for status monitoring
- 500 V DC galvanic isolation per channel
- Diagnostic feedback to controller (open-load, short-circuit detection)
Structural Features:
- Housing: Polycarbonate (PC) + glass fiber reinforced (GF)
- M12 8-pin A-coded connector — front-side field connection
- Backplane connector — bottom-side for X20 system bus
- DIN rail mounting (35 mm TS 35)
- Form factor: 25 × 90 × 75 mm
Working Principle:
Each output channel uses an NPN Darlington transistor or MOSFET in sink configuration. The controller sends a logic “1” via the backplane → the NPN transistor turns ON → the output terminal is connected to GND (0 V) → current flows from the external +24 VDC supply, through the load, into the output terminal, and to GND. Logic “0” turns the transistor OFF, opening the circuit.
Advantages & Highlights:
- Standard European sink configuration — directly compatible with the majority of European field devices
- 0.5 A per channel — drives solenoid valves, small relays, and indicator lamps directly
- M12 IP67 connector — suitable for wet and dusty environments
- Per-channel diagnostics — reduces downtime
- Compact footprint — fits in tight control cabinet spaces
Applicable Industries:
- Steel & metal processing
- Chemical processing
- Water & wastewater treatment
- Mining equipment
- Paper mills
- Glass manufacturing
- Cement plants
Installation Requirements:
- DIN rail 35 mm (EN 60715) mounting
- ≥ 10 mm clearance top and bottom for airflow
- M12 8-pin A-coded cable — max 100 m
- Connector torque: 1.5 Nm
- 24 VDC via X20 backplane — no external power to output terminals
Usage Precautions:
- Max 0.5 A per channel, 4 A total — do not exceed
- Do not apply voltage to output when transistor is OFF — always use external 24 VDC supply for the load
- Inductive loads require flyback diodes (for inductance > 10 mH)
- Do not connect output directly to +24 VDC — this creates a short circuit
- Ensure proper grounding of the 24 VDC power supply
