BAUMÜLLER BM4424-AT1-012 42-0311-7012 Synchronous Servo Motor

Product Introduction:
The BAUMÜLLER BM4424-AT1-012 42-0311-7012 is a large-frame servo motor from the BM4424 product family featuring forced air cooling, a keyed shaft with radial shaft seal, a rotatable connector, 4-pole winding, and extensive customer-specific modification code 42-0311-7012. This motor is engineered for high-power, high-torque industrial drives requiring forced cooling for sustained high-load operation.

Detailed content

Cooling MethodForced Air Cooling (A) — External fan-driven cooling enables continuous high-power output without thermal derating in confined spaces.

Shaft Configuration: Keyed Shaft with Radial Shaft Seal (T) — DIN 6885-1 keyway with single radial lip seal on drive end. Note: In BM4424 series, T denotes keyed shaft with seal (equivalent to I in BM4423 naming but adapted for BM4424).

Electrical ConnectionRotatable Connector (1) — M23 plug, 360° rotation.

Pole Configuration: 012 = 2 Pole Pairs (4 Poles) — Medium-speed, high-torque winding.

Frame Size: 280 mm Flange Diameter

Motor Length Code24 (Long Length) — Overall length approximately 340–400 mm (excluding shaft).

Rated Torque: Approximately 25–50 Nm

Peak TorqueUp to 3× Rated Torque

Rated PowerApproximately 10–22 kW

Maximum Rated SpeedUp to 3000–4000 rpm (dependent on winding and cooling)

Protection Class: IP54 (with shaft seal) / IP55 (with forced cooling and sealed housing) — Forced air cooling typically uses filtered air intake maintaining high ingress protection.

Insulation ClassClass F (155°C) — With forced cooling, effective continuous temperature rise is lower, extending insulation life.

Ambient Temperature Range: -10°C to +40°C (continuous); up to +50°C with forced cooling active.

Housing Material: Aluminum Alloy Die-Cast (ADC12) with Extended Cooling Fins — Larger surface area with integral fan shroud for forced air cooling.

Stator Lamination: 0.35 mm Grain-Oriented Silicon Steel — Low-loss laminations for high-efficiency operation at elevated power levels.

Rotor MagnetsSintered NdFeB N42SH / N42UH Grade — High-energy magnets for maximum torque density in large frame.

Bearings: Deep Groove Ball Bearings (Drive End) + Cylindrical Roller Bearing (Non-Drive End) — Cylindrical roller bearing on non-drive end handles higher radial loads typical of large-frame motors.

Shaft Material: Induction-Hardened C45E (1.0503)

Shaft Diameter: 55 mm or 70 mm (large shaft for high torque)

KeywayDIN 6885-1 Form A — 14×9 mm (55 mm shaft) / 18×11 mm (70 mm shaft)

WeightApproximately 55–85 kg

Moment of InertiaApproximately 0.080–0.250 kg·m²

Cooling FanIntegral Axial Fan on Non-Drive End — Powered by motor shaft or separate supply; provides forced convection over entire housing surface.

Custom Code 42-0311-7012BAUMÜLLER extended customer-specific modification identifier — Encodes detailed mechanical, electrical, and optional feature customizations including but not limited to: shaft modifications, connector type/position, paint coating, special winding, encoder specification, terminal box orientation, and mounting adaptations.

Encoder Options: Per 42-0311-7012 specification — typically High-Resolution Absolute (EnDat 2.2, Hiperface DSL) or BiSS-C

Standards Compliance: EN 60034-1, EN 60034-5, EN 60034-6 (IC 416 — forced cooling), EN 61800-5-1, CE, UL Listed, CSA Certified (optional)

Applicable Industries: Heavy CNC Machines, Large Injection Molding, Steel Mill Drives, Mining Conveyors, Ship Propulsion, Wind Turbine Pitch/Yaw, Large Press Machines, Extrusion Lines, Paper Mill Drives

Key Advantages:

  • 280 mm frame (BM4424) delivers 25–50 Nm rated torque — significantly higher than BM4423
  • Forced air cooling (A) enables continuous full-power operation even in enclosed spaces
  • 4-pole winding (012) provides optimal speed-torque balance for heavy industrial loads
  • Custom code 42-0311-7012 provides comprehensive application-specific configuration
  • Cylindrical roller bearing on non-drive end handles heavy radial loads
  • Larger shaft diameters (55/70 mm) for direct coupling to heavy machinery

Installation Requirements:

  • B5 flange mounting — 4× M12 or 4× M16 bolts on 280 mm bolt circle diameter (larger than BM4423).
  • Ensure forced air cooling airflow is unobstructed — minimum 300 mm clearance on fan side.
  • Mount motor with fan side facing upward or in direction of airflow.
  • Coupling: Rigid or very stiff bellows coupling — maximum misalignment ≤0.05 mm radial, ≤0.05 mm axial, ≤0.5° angular.
  • Mounting bolt torque: 40–60 Nm (M12) or 80–120 Nm (M16).
