Product Name: Woodward LS-5 Series Communication Gateway Extension Controller
Product Introduction: A gateway unit supporting the LS-5 series controllers. Used for protocol conversion between LS-5 series controllers and DCS/SCADA systems, converting CAN bus data into standard industrial communication protocols, enabling remote monitoring and remote setting of the entire power station by the host supervision system.

Detailed content

Technical Specifications:
  • Power Supply: 18–32 VDC
  • CAN Bus Interface: Connects to LS-5 controllers
  • External Communication Interface: Supports standard industrial protocols
  • Operating Temperature: -40°C to +70°C
  • Enclosure Rating: IP20
Functional Features:
  • Protocol conversion between CAN bus and host system for data interoperability
  • Forwards unit speed, load, alarm, and fault information to the host supervision system
  • Receives remote setpoint commands from DCS and forwards them to each controller
  • Communication fault self-diagnosis with alarm signal output
Application Scenarios: Multi-unit power stations equipped with DCS/SCADA monitoring, factory self-owned power plants.
Material Composition: Metal enclosure, communication processing circuit board, flame-retardant terminals.
Structural Features: DIN rail mounting or fixed cabinet mounting, with terminals arranged on both sides of the device.
Working Principle: Acquires all data from LS-5 series controllers on the CAN bus, converts the protocol, and forwards it to the host supervision system. Receives commands issued by the host, converts them into CAN bus commands, and sends them to each controller.
Installation Requirements:
  • Install inside a control cabinet, fixed via DIN rail
  • CAN bus uses shielded twisted-pair cable with terminal resistors configured
  • Separate routing of communication cables and power cables to reduce interference
Usage Precautions:
  • The gateway only performs data forwarding and does not participate in control logic; control logic is executed by the LS-5 controllers
  • Ensure proper shield grounding of communication cables to reduce electromagnetic interference
  • The software version must match the LS-5 controller version; otherwise, communication anomalies will occur
General Important Notes (Applicable to All Models)
  • All controllers do NOT provide independent hardware overspeed protection. The prime mover system MUST be equipped with a completely independent overspeed shutdown device; overspeed protection must not rely on these controllers.
  • Anti-static procedures must be strictly followed when assembling/disassembling circuit boards; electrostatic discharge will directly damage board components.
  • Shielded twisted-pair cable is preferred for all sampling signal lines, with the shield grounded at a single point only.
  • Equipment is only allowed to be installed inside sealed industrial control cabinets; it does not support outdoor, rain-exposed, or direct salt-spray exposed environments.
  • Fuses must be configured in high-voltage sampling circuits; thoroughly verify wiring before energizing to prevent equipment burnout due to wiring errors.
