Material Composition: Stainless steel precision-cast valve body; through-hardened stainless steel metering sleeve and gate; cast aluminum explosion-proof actuator housing with surface treatment; samarium-cobalt permanent magnet motor rotor bonded and sleeve-fixed; fully sealed motor stator windings; planetary gearbox in high-strength alloy steel; stainless steel torsional coupling; fluoro-rubber (FKM) or other gas-resistant elastomer seals.
Structural Features: Actuator and valve directly connected via adapter with no intermediate transmission link; rotary sleeve and gate metering structure with excellent flow characteristics; explosion-proof cast aluminum housing effectively conducts motor heat to ambient; output shaft supported by dual roller bearings for high load capacity; resolver directly coupled to valve metering sleeve eliminating transmission chain error; compact overall structure for turbine compartment installation.
Working Principle: Electronic controller sends position command to EM-35 driver. Driver energizes brushless DC motor for precise rotation. Motor, after planetary gear reduction, drives 3103 gas valve metering sleeve via stainless steel torsional coupling to change opening. Resolver detects actual sleeve position in real time and feeds back to driver, forming high-precision closed-loop position control. On power loss or shutdown command, driver cuts motor power and internal spring pushes sleeve to minimum fuel position for fail-safe protection.
Installation Requirements:
  • Careful handling during lifting and installation to avoid damaging seals, mounting faces, factory calibration
  • Protect gas connection ports with plastic plugs when not connected
  • Align adapter with locating pins; tighten bolts and coupling set screws to specified torque
  • Install 25 µm absolute-accuracy filter upstream of gas inlet
  • Route electrical connections through conduit entries; seal unused entries with explosion-proof plugs
  • Use shielded cable for actuator and resolver wiring with proper grounding
Usage Precautions:
  • Filter inspection and replacement is critical to valve life
  • Strictly control gas contaminant levels: <10 µm particles ≤30 ppm, >10 µm particles ≤0.3 ppm
  • Regularly inspect electrical connector sealing and position feedback signal stability
  • Avoid operation beyond pressure, temperature, or voltage ratings
  • Monitor actuator housing temperature for adequate heat dissipation
  • Follow Woodward OEM maintenance intervals; return to factory for overhaul at end of service life
  • Actuator replacement requires no valve re-calibration (resolver is directly on valve metering sleeve)
Note: Exact flange size, port configuration, and certification variant of 8915-1206 require Woodward factory confirmation. The 3103/EM35 family is on Woodward’s obsolescence path; upgrade path is GS40/GS50 Series.
