Working Principle:​ The TM-55P is an electrohydraulic, proportional actuator which converts electric control input to angular shaft output for positioning the rotary fuel metering sleeve of the valve. The essential element is a torque motor servovalve, which generates differential pressure across the ends of the second-stage spool valve to operate it. Input current to the torque motor gives proportional displacement of the spool valve and subsequent proportional movement of the servo piston. The piston’s linear motion is converted through internal linkage into output shaft rotation, which in turn rotates the 3103 valve’s metering sleeve to regulate gas flow.
Installation Requirements:​ Hydraulic oil cleanliness of ISO 4406 20/18/15 or higher; supply pressure of 2,758 to 6,895 kPa (400 to 1,000 psig); recommended viscosity of 0.6 to 400 centistokes; external filter of 10 μm nominal; supply pressure can be provided by a positive displacement or centrifugal pump; Woodward recommends the use of a pressure switch to ensure correct operating pressure is established before commissioning and during operation; the 3103 valve has two external drain provisions—use one suitable for the installation and plug the unused one (do not plug both!); route the drain line outside the turbine casing into a small container with clean light oil to verify gas tightness and prevent salt air corrosion of the shaft bearings in the cavity between the shaft seals.
