Working Principle:​ The microprocessor-based controller receives speed feedback from an Magnetic Pickup (MPU) sensor and compares it to the speed setpoint. The Speed PID algorithm calculates the control output, which drives the steam inlet valve actuator via the actuator output. Multiple dynamic control loops (speed, cascade, auxiliary) work together to maintain precise turbine speed and load. Critical speed avoidance logic prevents the turbine from dwelling at dangerous rotational speeds during acceleration/deceleration. In the event of overspeed, triple independent protection logic triggers an emergency shutdown.
Installation Requirements:​ Install in a NEMA 4X/IP56 rated enclosure suitable for the industrial environment. Provide stable 24 Vdc power. Wire the MPU speed sensor, actuator, and valve limit switches per Woodward 505 series wiring diagrams. Properly shield and ground all serial communication cables (RS-232, RS-422, Ethernet). Ensure the operating temperature stays within –20 to +60 °C.
Usage Notes:​ Perform valve/actuator calibration and stroking procedures per the manual before commissioning. Use the overspeed test button to periodically verify overspeed protection functionality. When configuring control dynamics, leave appropriate torque margin (e.g., 50%) and speed margin. Use OpView™ or 505View software for parameter configuration, monitoring, and fault diagnosis.
