Wärtsilä SAM Electronics AEM402

Product Name
AEM 402 eight-channel analog input expansion module.
Product Introduction
The AEM 402 acquires field instrument signals for marine integrated control, monitoring and alarm platforms. It is built for SAM Electronics Geamar and NACOS architectures and converts current, voltage, resistance thermometer and thermocouple signals into isolated digital values for the control system.

Thermocouple support for Type J and Type K with cold-junction compensation. Current input impedance 250 Ω internal shunt. Voltage input impedance greater than 1 MΩ. A/D conversion 16-bit sigma-delta. Full eight-channel update time 100 ms or less. Reference accuracy ±0.1% of full scale at 25°C. Temperature drift below 50 ppm/°C. Galvanic isolation 1500 V DC channel-to-backplane and 500 V DC channel-to-channel. Supply 24 V DC ±20% through rack backplane. Power consumption approximately 3.5 W. Operating temperature −15°C to +70°C. Storage temperature −40°C to +85°C. Relative humidity up to 95% non-condensing. Eurocard form factor for 19-inch subrack installation.
Functional Features
Per-channel software or jumper signal selection. Galvanic isolation on every channel and backplane. Self-calibrating sigma-delta conversion with 50/60 Hz noise rejection. Open-circuit, short-circuit, over-range and sensor-burnout diagnostics. Marine-coated printed circuit board for corrosion, humidity and vibration resistance.
Application Scenarios
Main and auxiliary engine exhaust gas temperature, charge air pressure and lube oil temperature monitoring. Boiler feedwater conductivity, steam drum pressure and level monitoring. Cargo tank radar level, deepwell pump pressure and ullage temperature acquisition. CPP pitch feedback, rudder angle acquisition and bearing temperature monitoring.
Performance Parameters
Sixteen-bit resolution, 100 ms aggregate update, ±0.1% full-scale accuracy, 1500 V DC isolation, 3.5 W power draw.
Material Composition
Marine-grade Eurocard printed circuit board with conformal coating. Plug-in backplane contact assembly. Industrial terminal and backplane interfaces suitable for shipboard environments.
Structural Characteristics
19-inch subrack-compatible cassette. Eight differential analog front ends. Rear backplane connector for system bus. Front or cassette labeling for channel identification.
Working Principle
Field current, voltage, RTD or thermocouple signals are conditioned by per-channel input circuits. The sigma-delta converter digitizes each signal, isolation barriers separate field wiring from the system bus, and the resulting engineering values are transmitted to the monitoring or control processor.
Installation Requirements
Install in a compatible SAM Electronics subrack, Geamar I/O cassette or approved 19-inch rack. Connect 24 V DC through the rack backplane. Route shielded instrument cables separately from power and drive cables. Maintain subrack ventilation limits and backplane torque specifications.
Usage Precautions
Do not apply signals outside the selected current, voltage, RTD or thermocouple range. Use 3-wire or 4-wire RTD connections for highest accuracy. Verify isolation before energizing in high-vibration engine-room environments. Perform periodic calibration and inspect conformal coating in corrosive atmospheres.
