STAHL 947022-16-11

Model: 947022-16-11 (catalogued as 9470/22-16-11)
Product Name: IS1 Digital Input Module, Intrinsic Safety
Product Introduction: This module receives discrete signals from dry contacts, NAMUR proximity switches and similar field devices in hazardous areas, then transfers status data to the IS1 CPU/power module. It is built for Zone 1 digital monitoring with per-channel line fault supervision.

Functional Features:
  • Frequency/Pulse Options: Selected 9470 implementations allow frequency measurement or counting on assigned channels; confirm firmware and station configuration for 947022-16-11
  • Line Monitoring: Open/short detection per approved NAMUR thresholds
  • Plant-STOP Support: Specific 9470 DIM variants include isolated stop output wiring concepts; use only with passive contacts and documented galvanic separation
  • Diagnostics: Module fault, bus fault, channel fault and configuration mismatch reporting
Application Scenarios:
  • Process Safety: Valve limit switches, pump running/stopped feedback, emergency isolator status
  • Explosive Plants: Chemical, pharmaceutical and paint-manufacturing Zone 1 fields
  • Offshore and Refining: NAMUR proximity detection on motors, dampers and skid doors
  • Dust Hazard Areas: Grain, powder and specialty chemical plants with IIIC documentation
Structural Characteristics:
  • Field Terminals: Two plug-in terminal blocks, 16 terminals each for X1 field wiring
  • Bus Connection: IS1 BusRail backplane data and power
  • Hot Swap: Many IS1 Zone 1 modules support controlled replacement; follow station rules and de-energized practice where zoning requires
Working Principle: Each input compares the field circuit state against NAMUR or contact thresholds, isolates the signal galvatically, and sends discrete status to the CPU module. Intrinsic safety barriers are integrated so field wiring cannot release ignition energy beyond entity limits.
Installation Requirements:
  • Separate intrinsic safety input cables from power and non-intrinsic safety cables.
  • Verify capacitance/inductance of field cable against U₀/I₀/P₀ entity limits.
  • Connect Plant-STOP only to passive apparatus and keep it isolated from other modules’ stop circuits.
  • Use STAHL terminal torque and BusRail seating instructions.
Usage Precautions:
  • Do not ground field-side negatives unless the loop calculation and Ex certificate allow it.
  • Do not parallel channels beyond certified grouping.
  • Replace with identical 9470/22-16-11 variant; mismatched firmware can cause bus configuration faults.
  • Inspect polyamide housing for cracking only during de-energized maintenance.
