Functional Features
Sixteen isolated inputs allow high-density safety sensor connection. Four test-pulse groups support short-circuit and cross-circuit detection for single-channel Category higher than 2 and dual-channel Category higher than 3 wiring. Input filtering rejects transient contact bounce. Per-channel LEDs simplify commissioning and fault finding.
Application Scenarios
Emergency stop networks, guard door monitoring, light curtain integration, safety mat zones, robotic cells, press lines, conveyor interlocks and other SafetyBUS p distributed safety I/O clusters.
Performance Parameters
Input state change below 300 microseconds is suppressed to prevent false events. Test-pulse evaluation detects line shorts to 24 V, mutual cross-shorts and broken wires according to the configured safety category. Address and I/O group allocation are handled in Pilz configuration software.
Material Composition
Industrial thermoplastic housing, multilayer printed circuit board, optocouplers, metal terminal carriers, copper conductors and LED lenses. DIN-clip and screw-mount hardware use plated steel or equivalent industrial alloy.
Structural Characteristics
The enclosure contains the input conditioning section, optocoupler isolation stage, test-pulse driver terminals, 9-pin SafetyBUS p connector, address configuration interface and front LED array. Terminals are arranged for supply, ground, inputs and test-pulse or auxiliary 24 V output groups.
Working Principle
Field devices apply or remove 24 VDC at the input terminals. The conditioning circuit filters noise, the optocoupler stage isolates the signal from the safety bus, and the logic section evaluates state changes. Test pulses are injected through assigned terminals; abnormal reflection, open circuit or short circuit generates a diagnostic fault. Valid input states are reported to the PSS safety controller over SafetyBUS p.
Installation Requirements
Mount on 35 mm DIN rail or fixing plate with adequate wiring clearance. Connect 24 VDC supply and ground to the designated terminals. Assign the SafetyBUS p station address in configuration software. Connect test-pulse outputs only to inputs that require line monitoring. Use shielded or separated safety cabling according to the PSS SB DI16 installation manual. Verify bus termination at both network ends.
Usage Notes
Do not replace the module under live bus power in safety applications. Preserve the original station address, slot position, test-pulse mapping and validated project file. Check every input LED and bus supply LED after installation. Never bypass test-pulse supervision with fixed 24 V jumpers. For short-circuit detection, match each input channel to the correct test-pulse group defined in the safety program.
