MTL 8201-HI-IS

Product Name: PAC8000 8-Channel Intrinsically Safe Analog Input Module, 4–20 mA with HART
Product Introduction: This module acquires 4–20 mA signals from two-wire HART transmitters located in hazardous areas and transfers digitized values to the PAC8000 Railbus. It is built for distributed control systems that require intrinsic safety, high accuracy and direct HART variable or status reporting without external barriers.

Detailed content

Technical Specifications: 8 single-ended input channels; nominal 4–20 mA, full range 0.5–22 mA; 16-bit resolution; accuracy ±20 μA at 25 °C; input isolation to Railbus 60 V AC; built-in IS power supply; IS Railbus 12 V DC; maximum current 600 mA; power dissipation 4.2 W maximum.
Functional Features: HART pass-through; HART variable and status reporting; line-fault detection for short circuit and open circuit; configurable high, high-high, low and low-low alarms; configurable input filter, dead band and fail-safe drive; channel enable or disable.
Performance Parameters: Transmitter voltage minimum 15 V at 20 mA; temperature stability ±0.006 % span per °C from -40 to +70 °C; short-circuit fault threshold greater than 21.5 mA; open-circuit fault threshold less than 0.5 mA; module key code A1.
Material And Structure: Aluminum and molded industrial enclosure; conformal-coated PCB; 42 mm width, 110 mm height, 106 mm depth; DIN-rail carrier mounting; gold or tin-plated backplane contacts; separate IS field terminal block.
Working Principle: The built-in supply energizes two-wire transmitters through current-limited IS circuits. The ADC converts each loop current to digital data, the HART modem overlays digital communication on the 4–20 mA signal, and the Railbus interface sends process values, status and diagnostics to the controller.
Installation Requirements: Mount on PAC8000 carrier or DIN rail; use approved IS field terminals; verify carrier key code; separate IS and non-IS wiring; connect shield according to plant grounding rules; confirm IS entity parameters with the complete hazardous-area loop calculation.
Application Scenarios: Oil and gas terminals, chemical plants, pharmaceutical process skids, power-generator auxiliaries and other Zone 1, Division 1 or Zone 2 analog acquisition points.
Usage Precautions: Do not mix this module with non-IS analog carriers without recalculating entity parameters. Do not exceed Railbus voltage ratings. Verify HART instrument addressing before commissioning. Replace only with the same key-code module to prevent incorrect slot insertion.
