Construction & Materials:

  • Housing: Zinc-plated steel ( stamped and welded)
  • Magnets: Ferrite (ceramic) permanent magnets
  • Commutator: Copper segments with silver plating
  • Brushes: Electrographite, spring-loaded
  • Bearings: Sleeve bearings (oil-impregnated sintered bronze)
  • Shaft: Carbon steel, hard-chrome plated

Working Principle:
DC voltage is applied to the armature windings via carbon brushes contacting the rotating commutator. The permanent magnet stator creates a fixed magnetic field. Interaction between armature current and stator field produces torque. Speed is proportional to applied voltage.

Advantages:

  • Low cost — economical solution for non-critical motion applications
  • Simple drive electronics — requires only a PWM H-bridge, no encoder needed for open-loop speed control
  • High starting torque — 3.4× rated torque at stall
  • Wide voltage tolerance — operates from 18–36 VDC

Applicable Industries:
Conveyor drives, AGV traction motors, door actuators, vending machines, simple linear actuators, low-cost robotics

Installation Requirements:

  • Mount with 4× M4 bolts using rear flange
  • Align shaft to load within 0.1 mm offset
  • Ensure minimum 25 mm ventilation clearance
  • Connect brushes with correct polarity (reverse polarity damages commutator)

Usage Notes:

  • Brush life is approximately 2000–5000 hours — inspect and replace periodically
  • Do not operate without load for extended periods (causes commutator arcing)
  • Use PWM frequency ≥20 kHz to minimize audible noise
  • Derate torque by 30% at ambient temperatures above 40°C
