Material Composition:
- Stator Core: Low-loss grain-oriented silicon steel (0.35mm laminations)
- Stator Windings: High-purity copper, Class F enamel insulation, vacuum-impregnated (VPI)
- Rotor: Sintered NdFeB permanent magnets (high coercivity, 150°C rated)
- Housing: Cast aluminum alloy (high thermal conductivity)
- Shaft: Forged alloy steel, induction hardened (HRC 58-62), ground to ±0.01mm
- Bearings: Angular contact ball bearings (preloaded, lifetime lubricated)
- Seals: Viton O-rings for liquid cooling jacket integrity
Structural Features:
- Large-diameter hollow shaft option available for direct-drive applications
- Dual-encoder mounting — primary + secondary (safety) encoder positions
- Integrated temperature sensors — 2× PTC thermistors in end windings
- Liquid cooling jacket — machined into stator housing for uniform heat extraction
- Robust terminal box — M20 cable glands, IP67 rated
Working Principle:
The XEL-230-36 is a three-phase permanent magnet synchronous servo motor. The servo drive (e.g., AKD series) generates a precisely controlled three-phase sinusoidal current that produces a rotating magnetic field in the stator. The NdFeB rotor follows this field with zero slip. The high-resolution multi-turn absolute encoder (EnDat 2.2 protocol) provides absolute position data to the drive, enabling immediate operation after power-on without homing. The liquid cooling system maintains stator temperature below 100°C even at full continuous torque, preventing thermal derating.
Key Advantages:
- Exceptional torque density — 36 Nm continuous from 230mm frame
- Liquid-cooled by default — no thermal derating at rated torque
- EnDat 2.2 encoder — highest noise immunity and resolution in class
- Peak torque 3× rated — handles shock loads and rapid acceleration
- Direct-drive capable — hollow shaft option eliminates gearbox
- Designed for 24/7 continuous operation
Applicable Industries:
- Heavy CNC Machining Centers (5-axis)
- Injection Molding Machines
- Metal Forming & Stamping Presses
- Large Industrial Robots (payload > 100 kg)
- Wind Turbine Pitch Control
- Ship Propulsion & Azimuth Thrusters
Installation Requirements:
- Rigid base mounting — bolted to machine frame with M12 anchor bolts
- Shaft coupling: Use Kollmorgen-approved flexible couplings (max. 0.05mm misalignment)
- Liquid cooling: Connect to chiller with glycol-water mix (30% glycol), flow rate min. 4 L/min, inlet temp 20°C ± 5°C
- Cable routing: Separate power cables (>100mm) from signal cables
- Grounding: Star-point grounding, resistance < 0.5 Ω
Usage Precautions:
- Never operate dry (without coolant flow) — will overheat in < 60 seconds
- Do not exceed 480 VAC — insulation breakdown risk
- Monitor coolant temperature — alarm at 45°C, trip at 55°C
- Replace bearings only with Kollmorgen OEM parts — wrong bearings cause premature failure
- Do not apply axial loads > 500 N on shaft — damages bearings
