Kollmorgen S72402-NANANA-NA-225
Product Overview:
The S72402-NANANA-NA-225 is a specific variant of the S7200 series servo motor with a defined winding (NANANA), feedback type (NA = no feedback/resolver or basic encoder), shaft configuration (NA = standard shaft), and a special mechanical option (225 = specific flange/shaft/length code). This is a high-torque, frame-size-40 motor optimized for industrial automation.

Working Principle:
Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The NdFeB magnets on the rotor create a fixed magnetic field. The stator windings (NANANA configuration) are energized by the servo drive with sinusoidal currents synchronized to rotor position (from resolver or encoder). FOC algorithm in the drive controls the d-axis and q-axis current components independently: d-axis current controls flux, q-axis current controls torque. This achieves maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) across the speed range.
Key Advantages:
- Stack length 2 — 40–50% more torque than stack length 0 or 1 in same frame
- IP65 rated — suitable for washdown and dusty environments
- High-energy magnets (N42SH) — maximum torque density
- Resolver feedback (NA) — robust in high-vibration, high-temperature environments (resolver has no electronics to fail)
- VPI windings — superior thermal conductivity and moisture resistance
Applicable Industries:
- Heavy-duty CNC machines
- Metal forming equipment
- Press machines
- Conveyor systems (high torque)
- Mining equipment
- Marine applications (with IP65)
Installation Requirements:
- Mount on rigid base — flange bolts torqued to 8 Nm (M5) or 15 Nm (M6)
- Coupling: Use flexible jaw coupling (max 0.1 mm misalignment)
- Resolver cable: 6-wire shielded cable, max 10 m (use resolver-to-digital converter if longer)
- Ground motor housing to < 0.1 Ω
Usage Notes:
- NA (no encoder) version requires external resolver-to-digital converter (e.g., Kollmorgen AKD with resolver input)
- Do not operate without resolver connected — drive will fault
- Resolver alignment: electrical zero must be set during commissioning (use auto-tune)
- Operating temperature: -10°C to +60°C (with Class H insulation, derate above 40°C)
