Product Introduction
Digital single-axis servo amplifier belonging to the Kollmorgen S700 family. The unit is a base configuration with no expansion cards in any of the three front slots; onboard EtherCAT and CANopen are active. The trailing “AKD” tag in the printed string is a distributor cross-reference note, not part of the native S700 order code. It is used as a follower drive in EtherCAT/CANopen machine networks or as a standalone torque/speed controller via analog I/O and pulse-direction.

Working Principle
The drive rectifies the 3-phase AC line into a DC bus, then uses PWM IGBT switching to synthesize 3-phase sinusoidal current at the motor windings. Rotor position from resolver/encoder is evaluated every microsecond to commutate the permanent-magnet motor. A cascaded control loop runs torque (innermost), velocity, and position (outermost). EtherCAT/CANopen frames update setpoints every 250 µs–1 ms; STO removes gate drive power within milliseconds when safety circuit opens.

Usage Notes

Do not run 480 VAC directly to a 120 V winding motor without correct drive voltage scaling

STO wiring must follow ISO 13849 / IEC 62061; never permanently bridge STO for production

Firmware is S700 family; do not load AKD WorkBench project files

Use DriveGUI or S700 Studio over RS232/X6 for commissioning
