Functional Features:

  • Single-turn absolute encoder — position known immediately on power-up.
  • High torque-to-inertia ratio: 58:1 — excellent dynamic response.
  • Smooth sinusoidal commutation — low torque ripple (< 3% of rated torque).
  • Wide speed range — operates efficiently from 0 to 4,500 RPM.
  • IP65 protection — suitable for dusty and washdown environments (with seal kit).

Structural Features:

  • Housing: Die-cast aluminum with anodized finish.
  • Stator: M19 silicon steel laminations, Class F insulated windings.
  • Rotor: N42SH NdFeB magnets, carbon-fiber sleeve retention.
  • Bearings: Sealed ball bearings (6000-2RS type), pre-lubricated for life.
  • Shaft: Hardened steel (C45), ground to h6 tolerance.
  • Connector: M23 17-pin (power + encoder) on rear face.

Material Composition:

  • Housing: Die-cast Aluminum ADC12
  • Stator Core: M19 Silicon Steel (0.35mm lamination)
  • Windings: Class F (155°C) Polyester-imide enamel copper
  • Magnets: N42SH Neodymium-Iron-Boron (NdFeB)
  • Shaft: C45 Carbon Steel, induction hardened to 55 HRC
  • Bearings: Chrome steel (AISI 52100), 2RS sealed

Working Principle:
The S406AM-CA is a three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The AKD/BDS drive sends sinusoidal currents to the three stator windings, creating a rotating magnetic field. The NdFeB rotor magnets lock to this field and rotate synchronously. The BiSS-C absolute encoder on the shaft provides real-time position feedback (17-bit resolution) to the drive for closed-loop servo control.

Advantages:

  • Compact 60mm flange — fits tight machine envelopes.
  • Absolute feedback — no homing cycle required after power-off.
  • High dynamic response — suitable for high-speed pick-and-place.
  • Low maintenance — sealed bearings, no brushes.

Applicable Industries:

  • Packaging machines
  • 3D printers
  • Small CNC routers
  • Laboratory automation
  • Medical devices
  • Semiconductor handling

Installation Requirements:

  • Mount using 4× M5 mounting holes on 60mm flange (bolt pattern: 50mm × 50mm).
  • Tighten mounting bolts to 2.5 Nm torque in star pattern.
  • Couple to load using flexible coupling — do not exceed 0.1mm misalignment.
  • Ground motor housing to PE terminal — resistance ≤ 0.1Ω.
  • Use shielded cable (CH series recommended) — maximum 15m.

Usage Precautions:

  • Do not exceed 4,500 RPM — risk of bearing failure and magnet delamination.
  • Do not apply axial loads > 50N on shaft — bearings are not rated for thrust.
  • Do not run motor without encoder connected — drive will fault (E-STOP).
  • Derate torque by 15% at 40°C ambient (vs. 20°C rating).
  • Re-grease bearings only if using non-sealed variant — this model uses sealed bearings (no re-grease).
