Kollmorgen S403AM-SER

Product Introduction:
The SERVOSTAR 400 (S400) family is a modular digital servo amplifier platform. The S403AM is a 3 A continuous / 6 A peak axis module for 160–310 VDC bus (from 1×115 VAC or 3×230 VAC input on a master module). “SER” indicates SERCOS fiber-optic ring interface. Axis modules share the DC bus with a master (S40xM).

Detailed content

Technical Specifications:
  • Rated Output Current (Continuous): 3 Arms
  • Peak Output Current: 9 Arms (≤ 5 s)
  • Supply Voltage Versions: Matches master — DC bus 160–310 VDC (from 1×115 VAC or 3×230 VAC)
  • Power Dissipation (Cont.): approx. 40 W internal braking resistor rating; external shunt recommended for frequent decel
  • Control Loops: Current loop 62.5 µs; velocity & position loops 250 µs
  • Feedback Support: Incremental encoder, absolute encoder (EnDat, BiSS optional with card), resolver, Hall sensors
  • Communication: SERCOS (ring topology), RS-232 service port
  • Digital I/O: Configurable via parameter; typically 4 DI / 2 DO on base unit (expandable with option cards)
  • Safe Torque Off (STO): Available with appropriate firmware/hardware option
  • Mounting: DIN rail or screw-fixed in cabinet
  • Dimensions (W × H × D): ~50 × 245 × 225 mm (axis module)
  • Protection: IP20, UL/cUL listed
Working Principle:
Receives motion command via SERCOS from a master controller or shares DC link with a S400 Master unit. Performs vector-controlled current regulation for synchronous servo motors.
Installation & Notes:
  • Requires a SERVOSTAR 400 Master module (e.g., S403M or S406M) in same rack to supply DC bus and 24 V logic.
  • Shield motor cables to PE terminals; separate power and signal routing.
  • Parameterize via CME (Commissioning & Monitoring Engineering) software over RS-232.
  • Legacy product — successor families are S700 and AKD.
Applications: Multi-axis printing presses, textile machines, legacy CNC retrofits, material handling systems.
