Kollmorgen PRD-0019000z-0

Model Series: PRD Series (Precision Rotary Devices)

Product Introduction:
The PRD-0019000z-0 is a high-resolution sin/cos resolver from the PRD product family. Resolvers provide absolute angular position feedback without the need for a battery or multi-turn counter. The “0019000” indicates 19-bit single-turn resolution (524,288 counts per revolution). The “z” suffix denotes a specific electrical output configuration, and “0” indicates standard factory configuration.

Working Principle:
A resolver is a rotary transformer. The rotor carries a sinusoidal winding excited by an AC reference signal. The stator has two windings spatially displaced by 90 electrical degrees. As the rotor turns, the induced voltages in the stator windings produce sin(θ) and cos(θ) outputs proportional to the shaft angle. A Resolver-to-Digital Converter (RDC) decodes these analog signals into digital position data.

Advantages:

  • Absolute position on power-up (no homing required)
  • Extremely robust: no optical components, immune to dust, oil, vibration
  • Operates from -40°C to +125°C
  • Infinite resolution (limited only by RDC)
  • No multi-turn battery backup required for single-turn use

Applicable Industries:

  • Military and aerospace actuators
  • Oil and gas downhole equipment
  • Heavy industrial servo systems
  • Wind turbine pitch control
  • Mining and off-highway vehicles

Installation Requirements:

  • Mount using 2x M3 mounting holes on 25 mm bolt circle
  • Maximum shaft load: 10 N radial, 5 N axial
  • Coupling alignment: <0.03 mm TIR, <0.02° angular
  • RDC must be located within 3 meters of resolver for best signal integrity
  • Shielded cable required between resolver and RDC

Usage Notes:

  • Requires an external Resolver-to-Digital Converter (RDC) such as Kollmorgen RDC-03 or equivalent
  • Excitation signal must be a clean sine wave; distorted excitation degrades accuracy
  • Do not exceed 10,000 RPM continuous speed
  • The “z” output configuration indicates a specific wire color code; verify against datasheet before wiring
