Kollmorgen M-403-A-21

Product Type: Direct-drive rotary (DDR/torque motor) module, M-series frameless/housed
  • Product Name: M-403-A-21 direct-drive rotary motor
  • Decode: M = direct-drive family, 403 = frame size with large hollow bore, A = winding A (low-voltage high-torque), 21 = stack/config.

Detailed content

  • Performance (M403 class):
    • Continuous torque 20–40 Nm
    • Peak torque 80–120 Nm
    • Speed 200–600 rpm
    • Hollow shaft 40–50 mm pass-through
    • Poles 18–24
  • Construction:
    • Outer rotor with NdFeB magnets, stator with water-cooling grooves optional
    • Frameless version has no bearings; housed version includes bearings and encoder mount
    • Lamination stack low-loss steel
  • Working Principle: Torque motor eliminates gearbox; drive closes position loop on external encoder mounted to load.
  • Application: Rotary index tables, telescope azimuth, test rigs, semiconductor turnstile.
  • Install: Stator bolted to subplate, rotor aligned to load <0.05 mm TIR; thermal pad if liquid-cooled.
  • Caution: High inertia ratio handled by controller; no mechanical reduction means backlash zero but tuning conservative.
