Construction & Materials:

  • Enclosure: ABS plastic, UL94 V-0 flame rating
  • PCB: 4-layer, conformal coated
  • Connectors: M12 8-pin for EtherCAT, M8 4-pin for power
  • Status LEDs: Power, Link, Data, Error

Working Principle:
The KC1 module acts as an EtherCAT slave coupler. It receives motion commands from the master (PLC) via EtherCAT frames, forwards them to the servo drive(s), and returns status/feedback data in the same cycle. It enables distributed I/O and reduces wiring complexity.

Advantages:

  • Reduces wiring by up to 70% compared to point-to-point connections
  • Hot-swap capable — add/remove axes without system downtime
  • Daisy-chain topology — single cable runs through all drives
  • Deterministic communication — guaranteed cycle time for synchronized multi-axis motion

Applicable Industries:
Automotive assembly lines, packaging machines, printing presses, multi-axis robotics, large-scale material handling

Installation Requirements:

  • Mount on DIN rail (35 mm) or panel-mount with screws
  • Connect EtherCAT cable in daisy-chain order (first and last device require termination)
  • Provide 24 VDC power with <5% ripple
  • Ensure network cable is shielded CAT5e or better (max 100 m segment)

Usage Notes:

  • Configure via Kollmorgen Workbench software
  • Do not mix EtherCAT with standard Ethernet on the same port
  • Update firmware when new drive models are added to the network
