Kollmorgen DH083A-13-1210
Product Introduction:
The DH083A-13-1210 is a frameless direct-drive torque motor from Kollmorgen’s DH083A product line. The model code breakdown: “DH” = DirectDrive Hollow rotor, “083” = 83 mm outer diameter, “A” = Series A (standard performance), “13” = frame/stack variant 13, “1210” = 121 mm stack length. This motor features a hollow rotor with no shaft, no bearings, and no housing — it integrates directly into the customer’s mechanical assembly.

Structural Features:
- Hollow cylindrical frameless design
- Stator mounts to machine structure via flange
- Rotor mounts to load — no shaft, no bearings
- 32 mm bore allows wiring/cooling through center
- Resolver feedback standard; absolute encoder optional
- Precision-balanced rotor for high-speed operation (up to 6000 RPM)
Material Composition:
- Stator Core: High-grade silicon steel laminations (0.2 mm)
- Rotor Magnets: Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB, N42SH grade)
- Stator Windings: Class H insulation (180°C), copper, VPI impregnated
- Resolver: Stainless steel housing, hermetically sealed
- Bonding: Epoxy potting for environmental protection
Working Principle:
Frameless PMSM torque motor. Stator is mounted to the machine frame. Rotor with NdFeB magnets is mounted on the driven load. Three-phase currents from the servo drive create a stator magnetic field that interacts with the rotor magnets, producing torque directly on the load. No gearbox, no coupling, no backlash. Resolver provides sin/cos feedback for commutation and velocity control.
Functional Features:
- Zero-backlash direct drive
- 32 mm hollow bore for cable routing
- High-speed capability up to 6000 RPM
- Resolver feedback for robust operation in harsh environments
- Compact 83 mm OD × 121 mm length
Advantages:
- Zero backlash — superior positioning accuracy
- Highest speed in DH083 family (6000 RPM)
- Hollow bore (32 mm) for integrated wiring
- Lightweight at 1.4 kg
- NdFeB magnets for highest torque density in this size
Applicable Industries:
- Camera gimbals (drone, cinema)
- Robot wrist joints
- Antenna positioning (small satellite dishes)
- Optical scanners and mirrors
- Medical robotics end-effectors
- Semiconductor inspection stages
Installation Requirements:
- Stator concentricity to mounting surface: < 0.025 mm
- Rotor balance: G2.5 per ISO 1940
- Customer provides bearing support on both rotor ends
- Air gap: 0.25 mm ± 0.05 mm
- Resolver cable max 15 m (6-wire shielded)
- Apply thermal compound between stator and mounting surface
Usage Notes:
- Customer provides all bearings — motor has no bearing support
- Maximum continuous speed: 3000 RPM (6000 RPM peak, short duration)
- Air gap is critical — mechanical contact will damage NdFeB magnets
- NdFeB magnets have lower max temperature than SmCo — limit to 120°C
