Detailed content
Resistance Value: 0.2 Ω (±5%)
Rated Power Dissipation: 300 W (continuous at 40°C ambient)
Peak Power Dissipation: 900 W (for 10 seconds maximum)
Maximum Voltage Across Resistor: √(P × R) = √(300 × 0.2) = 7.75 VDC RMS (continuous) / 13.4 VDC peak (10 sec)
Inductance: < 5 μH (low-inductance wire-wound construction)
Resistor Type: Wire-wound ceramic resistor on aluminum base
Housing Material: Extruded aluminum alloy (6063-T5) with anodized finish
Housing Dimensions (L × W × H): 180 mm × 80 mm × 55 mm
Weight: 1.8 kg
Terminal Type: Screw terminals (M6) — 2 power terminals + 1 ground terminal
Wire Gauge: 6 AWG to 10 AWG (copper, rated for 300 W)
Protection Rating: IP20 (indoor use only)
Operating Temperature: -25°C to +60°C (ambient)
Derating: -2.0% per °C above 40°C (continuous power)
Thermal Resistance (Junction to Ambient): 1.5 K/W (natural convection)
Certifications: CE, UL, RoHS Compliant
Key Features:
- 0.2 Ω, 300 W — Matched for 70 VDC bus AKD servo drives (AKD-P, AKD-T, AKD-B series)
- Low inductance (< 5 μH) — Ensures fast brake response, no voltage overshoot
- Wire-wound construction — High pulse overload capability (900 W for 10 sec)
- Aluminum housing — Excellent heat dissipation, lightweight
- Screw terminals — Secure, tool-free connection
Applicable Industries: Any application using Kollmorgen AKD servo drives with regenerative braking — CNC, robotics, packaging, printing, material handling
Installation Requirements:
- Mount in well-ventilated area — Minimum 150 mm clearance on all sides
- Connect to AKD drive braking terminals (B+, B-) using 6 AWG copper wire (max 1 m length recommended)
- Connect ground terminal to chassis ground (< 1 Ω)
- Do not cover or enclose the resistor — Requires free air convection
Precautions:
- Do not exceed 300 W continuous at ambient > 40°C — Apply derating curve
- Do not touch resistor during or immediately after operation — Surface temperature exceeds 200°C at full load
- Ensure wire gauge is adequate — Undersized wire causes voltage drop and overheating
- Verify braking resistor is connected BEFORE applying power to drive
