Kollmorgen BH-826-A-43-B3
Product Overview:
The BH-826-A-43-B3 is a brushless DC servo motor from Kollmorgen’s BH product line. The “826” indicates an 86 mm frame size (outer diameter). “A-43-B3” encodes the winding (A), feedback (43 = multi-turn absolute encoder), and connector/shaft (B3) configuration. This motor features a multi-turn absolute encoder for position tracking without homing.

Material Composition:
- Housing: Aluminum alloy 6061-T6, black anodized
- Shaft: Hardened stainless steel 17-4PH
- Magnets: NdFeB N42SH
- Windings: Class H insulation (180°C), copper
- Bearings: Sealed ball bearings — lifetime lubricated
- Encoder: Optical, glass scale — Wiegand wire for multi-turn counting
Structural Features:
- 86 mm diameter cylindrical body — mid-size frame
- Rear-mounted M23 connector (B3 variant)
- Keyed shaft, 10 mm — standard coupling size
- IP65 sealed — full protection against dust and water jets
- Wiegand sensor — no battery required for absolute position retention
Working Principle:
Electronic commutation via servo drive. The BiSS-C absolute encoder provides position data on every power-up without requiring a homing routine. The Wiegand sensor generates pulses via a special ferromagnetic wire that flips polarity in a magnetic field, enabling multi-turn counting without batteries. The drive commutates the 3-phase stator to produce torque proportional to current.
Advantages:
- Absolute position on power-up — eliminates homing sequence, saves cycle time
- 16-bit resolution (65,536 counts/rev single-turn) — ultra-precise
- Wiegand multi-turn — no battery, no maintenance, unlimited power cycles
- IP65 rating — harsh environment capable
- High torque density — 3.5 Nm in 86 mm frame
Applicable Industries:
Robotics (joint axes), CNC machines, packaging, printing, medical devices, AGVs, semiconductor equipment, telescope positioning
Series: BH-826 (86 mm frame, 3.5 Nm)
Installation Requirements:
- Flexible coupling — alignment: <0.05 mm offset, <0.1° angular
- BiSS-C cable: shielded twisted pair, max 10 m
- Do not exceed 5000 RPM
- Ground encoder shield at drive end only
Usage Notes:
- Absolute position is retained — do not perform homing after every power cycle (wastes time)
- Wiegand sensor is sensitive to strong external magnets — keep >50 mm from magnets
- Do not disassemble encoder end — optical scale is fragile
- Brake or external holding required for vertical Z-axis (no integrated brake on this variant)
