Kollmorgen B-104-B-14-B3
Product Introduction: Legacy Kollmorgen Goldline® B-series rare-earth magnet (SmCo) brush-type DC servo motor, widely used with older ServoStar CD/S-series drives or 3rd-party DC amplifiers. “B-104” = B-frame size 104 (≈ 104 mm / 4.1″ OD), “B” winding, “14” = specific armature voltage/torque constant variant, “-B3” = standard NEMA 56C face with shaft key, with factory-installed tachogenerator and thermal switch.
Detailed content
-
Typical Specifications (B-104-B example values — verify against original datasheet label):
-
Rated Torque (continuous): approx. 4.2 N·m (37 oz-in × 10 ≈ 37 lb-in ≈ 4.2 N·m — actual B-104-B ~ 4.45 N·m stall check)
-
Stall Torque: 4.38–4.45 N·m (typical for B-104-B)
-
Continuous Rated Current: ~4.2 A (armature)
-
Peak Current: ~12.6 A
-
Armature Voltage (rated): 75 V DC typical for B-winding (some -14 variants 90 V)
-
No-load Speed: 5000–7500 rpm depending on winding (B-104-B ~ 5600 rpm no-load @ rated V)
-
Torque Constant (K_t): ~1.05 N·m/A
-
Back-EMF Constant (K_e): ~ 70 V/krpm
-
Rotor Inertia: ~0.046 × 10⁻³ kg·m² (from catalog)
-
Brush Life: > 2000 hrs at rated load (depends on duty cycle)
-
-
Mechanical:
-
Frame Diameter: ~104 mm (4.10″)
-
Mounting: NEMA 56C face (⌀63.5 mm pilot, 4× ¼-20 tapped holes on 82.55 mm BCD) or IEC equivalent per -B3 suffix
-
Shaft: ⌀15.875 mm (5/8″) with Woodruff key
-
Length: approx. 190–210 mm (excluding rear tach protrusion if fitted)
-
Mass: ~5–6 kg
-
Tachogenerator: Typically 7 V/krpm DC tach (if “-T” or B3 includes tach — common on B3 option)
-
Thermal Switch: Normally-closed thermostat (opens at ~145 °C)
-
-
Application: Retrofit/legacy CNC axis, old printing/web machines, textile machinery — wherever brush-DC architecture is retained.
-
Notes / Cautions: This is an obsolete product line — replacement brushes (Kollmorgen p/n often BRS-xxx) may be required for maintenance. Commutation done electronically if used with modern drive in “DC brush” mode, or via separate commutating amp. Not plug-and-play with AKM auto-ID. Check nameplate for exact winding voltage & tach polarity before connection.
