Kollmorgen B-102-A-21

Product Series: B-Series — Servo Motor Cable Assemblies

Product Introduction:
The B-102-A-21 is a pre-configured servo motor power cable assembly from Kollmorgen’s B-Series product line. It is designed to connect Kollmorgen servo motors (AKM, AEM, XEL, XPL, AEP, ACM series) to AKD/AKM servo drives. The “102” indicates the cable cross-section and length code, “A” denotes the connector type, and “21” specifies the wiring configuration.

Detailed content

Model Designation Breakdown:

  • B = B-Series (Cable Assembly)
  • 102 = Cable specification code (cross-section + length variant)
  • A = Connector type A (drive-end: M23; motor-end: M23)
  • 21 = Wiring configuration 21 (standard 3-phase + PE + brake)

Material Composition:

  • Conductors: Oxygen-free copper (OFC), Class 5 per IEC 60228
  • Insulation: XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene), color-coded (U=brown, V=black, W=white, PE=green/yellow)
  • Inner Sheath: PVC (flexible grade)
  • Braid Shield: Tinned copper braid (85% coverage)
  • Outer Jacket: PUR (polyurethane) — oil resistant, abrasion resistant
  • Connectors: Nickel-plated brass housing, silicone seals (IP67)
  • Strain Relief: Metal clamp with rubber grommet

Structural Features:

  • 4 power conductors (U/V/W/PE) + 2 brake wires in one jacket
  • Dual shielding — braid + foil for EMI immunity
  • Keyed connectors — prevents mis-mating (12-pin, asymmetric keying)
  • Pre-wired and tested — plug-and-play installation
  • Drag-chain rated — suitable for moving cable carrier applications (if specified)

Working Principle:
The cable transmits three-phase AC power from the servo drive to the motor windings, plus a separate brake circuit for the motor’s holding brake. The dual shielding prevents electromagnetic interference (EMI) from the high-frequency PWM signals in the servo drive from radiating outward, and also prevents external noise from corrupting the encoder signal (if encoder cable is routed nearby). The color-coded conductors ensure correct phase connection (U→U, V→V, W→W).

Key Advantages:

  • Pre-assembled and tested — zero wiring errors
  • Dual shielding — superior EMI performance vs. unshielded cables
  • PUR jacket — oil and abrasion resistant for industrial environments
  • IP67 connectors — protected against dust and temporary immersion
  • Kollmorgen OEM quality — guaranteed compatibility with all Kollmorgen drives and motors

Applicable Industries:

  • All Kollmorgen servo motor applications
  • CNC Machines
  • Robots
  • Packaging Machines
  • Any EtherCAT/servo-driven motion system

Installation Requirements:

  • Route cable away from high-voltage power lines (> 200mm separation)
  • Do not exceed minimum bend radius — conductor damage occurs
  • Use cable clamp at both ends — prevent strain on connectors
  • Torque connector screws to 2.5 Nm — do not over-tighten
  • If using drag chain: Use cable carrier rated version, verify bend radius in chain

Usage Precautions:

  • Do not cut or modify cable — voids warranty and safety certification
  • Do not exceed 16A continuous current — cable overheating risk
  • Do not run parallel to encoder cables for > 1m — cross at 90° if unavoidable
  • Replace immediately if jacket is damaged — exposed conductors are a shock hazard
  • Max ambient at cable: 80°C — do not route near heat sources
