Kollmorgen AKM64L-GCFNR-0

Product Family: AKM Series Brushless Servo Motor

Product Overview:
The AKM64L-GCFNR-0 is a brushless DC (BLDC) servo motor with integrated encoder, from Kollmorgen’s AKM product line. The “64L” indicates a 64 mm frame size (outer diameter). “GCFNR” encodes the winding, feedback, shaft, and connector configuration. The trailing “-0” denotes the standard electrical variant.

Material Composition:

  • Housing: Aluminum alloy 6061-T6, black anodized
  • Shaft: Hardened stainless steel 17-4PH
  • Magnets: Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) — N42SH grade
  • Windings: Class H insulation (180°C), copper wire
  • Bearings: Sealed ball bearings (front and rear) — lifetime lubricated
  • Seal: IP65 lip seal on output shaft

Structural Features:

  • Compact 64 mm diameter cylindrical body
  • Rear-mounted connector (M23 or M12 depending on variant — GCFNR specifies M23)
  • Keyed shaft for positive mechanical coupling
  • Integral encoder mounted on rear end bell
  • Balanced rotor for low vibration at high speed

Working Principle:
The motor uses electronic commutation — a 3-phase inverter (servo drive) energizes the stator windings in sequence based on rotor position feedback from the incremental encoder. The interaction between the stator’s rotating magnetic field and the permanent magnets on the rotor produces continuous torque. The encoder provides position and velocity feedback for closed-loop control.

Advantages:

  • High torque density — 1.4 Nm continuous in a 64 mm frame
  • IP65 rating — suitable for harsh environments (dust, washdown)
  • Brushless design — no brush maintenance, longer life
  • NdFeB magnets — superior torque per volume vs. SmCo
  • Integrated encoder — eliminates need for external feedback devices

Applicable Industries:
Robotics, CNC machines, packaging, semiconductor, medical devices, AGVs, conveyor systems, printing

Series: AKM64L (64 mm frame, long stack)

Installation Requirements:

  • Mount with flexible coupling — misalignment tolerance: <0.1 mm angular, <0.05 mm parallel
  • Do not exceed 5000 RPM under any condition
  • Ensure connector is sealed when operating in washdown environments
  • Use shielded motor cable (max 15 m) — longer runs require drive-side filtering

Usage Notes:

  • Do not disassemble the motor — magnets are brittle and can shatter
  • Encoder cable must not be bent below 30 mm radius
  • Demagnetization risk above 150°C — do not exceed thermal limits
  • Replace motor if encoder signal shows missing counts or excessive jitter
