Kollmorgen AKI-CDF-MOD-10

Product Name: Kollmorgen AKI Series Ironless Linear Motor — CDF Modular Configuration, Model 10
Product Series: AKI Series (Ironless / Coreless Linear Motors)
Model Code: AKI-CDF-MOD-10
Product Category: Direct-Drive Linear Servo Motor Actuator

Detailed content

Description:
The AKI-CDF-MOD-10 is a modular ironless linear motor from Kollmorgen’s AKI product line. The CDF designation indicates a Compact Direct-drive Force configuration. MOD-10 specifies the modular frame size variant. This actuator eliminates all mechanical transmission elements (gears, belts, ballscrews) to deliver pure linear motion with superior dynamic performance.

Key Specifications:

  • Motor Type: Ironless (Coreless) Linear Servo Motor
  • Configuration: CDF (Compact Direct-drive Force)
  • Modular Frame: MOD-10
  • Continuous Force Output: Up to 340 N (varies by coil length)
  • Peak Force Output: Up to 1,020 N (3× continuous, short duration)
  • Magnet TrackHalbach Array Permanent Magnets
  • Coil Construction: Copper Windings with Epoxy Encapsulation
  • Maximum Continuous Velocity: Up to 10 m/s
  • Maximum Acceleration: Up to 300 m/s²
  • Positioning Accuracy±0.5 µm (with appropriate feedback)
  • Repeatability±0.1 µm

Technical Features:

  • Zero Cogging Force due to ironless coil design
  • Conduction-Cooled via motor housing to machine structure
  • Force Ripple: Less than 1% of peak force
  • Thermal Time Constant: Approximately 8–12 minutes (depends on mounting)

Structural Characteristics:

  • Moving Element: Forcer coil assembly with no iron core
  • Stationary Element: Magnet track with Halbach magnet array
  • Air Gap: Minimized for maximum force density
  • Encapsulation: Fully potted coil for environmental protection
  • Mounting Method: Direct bolt-on to machine base

Working Principle:
Electromagnetic Lorentz force principle. Current flowing through the ironless coil interacts with the permanent magnet field to produce linear force directly, without any mechanical conversion. Force = B × I × L (magnetic flux density × current × conductor length).

Advantages:

  • Zero backlash, zero wear — no mechanical transmission
  • Highest force density in the AKI class
  • Ultra-smooth motion with zero cogging
  • Low maintenance — no lubrication, no replacement parts
  • Compact modular design enables rapid system integration

Applicable Industries: Semiconductor wafer handling, laser cutting and welding, medical device manufacturing, precision metrology, electronic assembly, optical alignment systems

Installation Requirements:

  • Mount magnet track to machine base with precision flatness ≤ 0.02 mm/m
  • Align forcer to track with lateral tolerance ≤ 0.05 mm
  • Ensure adequate thermal conduction path to heatsink or machine structure
  • Use non-magnetic fasteners only (stainless steel or titanium)

Usage Notes:

  • Do not exceed rated continuous force to prevent coil overheating
  • Maintain clean environment to prevent particle contamination in the air gap
  • Verify encoder alignment and signal integrity before commissioning
