Kollmorgen AKD-P04807-NCC

Product Introduction:
The AKD-P04807-NCC is a dual-axis capable digital servo drive from Kollmorgen’s AKD-P line, rated at 48 A continuous current and 7 kW output. The “NCC” configuration indicates a dual-axis drive with CANopen communication, built-in braking chopper (no external resistor needed for moderate duty), 24 VDC logic, and EtherCAT communication as the primary fieldbus option. This drive controls two servo axes from a single chassis.

Structural Features:

  • Dual-axis chassis-mount enclosure in single package
  • Shared DC bus and power stage between both axes
  • Independent current control per axis
  • Modular terminal blocks with axis-specific labeling
  • Internal braking chopper eliminates external resistor for duty cycles under 30%

Material Composition:

  • Enclosure: Galvanized steel, powder-coat
  • Heatsink: Extruded aluminum (6063-T5), dual-axis thermal design
  • Power Electronics: IGBT modules (650 V, per axis)
  • PCB: FR-4, conformal coated, dual-layer per axis
  • Connectors: Industrial screw terminals (Phoenix Contact)

Working Principle:
The AKD-P04807-NCC rectifies three-phase AC input to a shared 325 VDC bus. Two independent IGBT inverter stages synthesize three-phase currents for two separate servo motors. Each axis has its own current loop (1.2 kHz), velocity loop (400 Hz), and position loop (200 Hz). EtherCAT provides deterministic real-time communication (125 µs cycle time) with the motion controller. During deceleration, regenerative energy is absorbed by the internal braking chopper and dissipated through an internal resistor, eliminating the need for an external braking resistor in moderate-duty applications.

Functional Features:

  • Independent PID tuning per axis
  • Cross-axis electronic gearing and camming
  • S-curve and trapezoidal profile generation (per axis)
  • Dual-axis coordinated linear and circular interpolation
  • Electronic cam with up to 32 segments per axis
  • Fault logging with per-axis diagnostics
  • Safe Torque Off (STO) per IEC 61800-5-2 (per axis)

Advantages:

  • Dual-axis in single chassis reduces panel space by 50% vs. two single-axis drives
  • Built-in braking chopper eliminates external resistor cost and wiring
  • EtherCAT primary interface for highest-speed motion control networks
  • Shared power stage reduces component count and improves efficiency
  • Independent axis control with cross-axis coordination capability

Applicable Industries:

  • Gantry systems (X-Y axes)
  • Dual-arm robots
  • Twin-spindle CNC lathes
  • Conveyor systems with independent zone control
  • Packaging machines with dual-lane control

Installation Requirements:

  • Mount vertically with 100 mm clearance above and below heatsink
  • Connect EtherCAT cable to primary port (RJ45, shielded, Cat5e minimum)
  • Provide 24 VDC logic power (max 3 A total for both axes)
  • Ground chassis to PE
  • For high-regeneration duty (>30%), add external braking resistor to P/N terminals
  • Maximum encoder cable length: 30 m (EnDat 2.2), 50 m (Hiperface)

Usage Notes:

  • Internal chopper handles up to 1.5 kW regeneration; exceeding this requires external resistor
  • Configure each axis independently in Kollmorgen Workbench software
  • Total continuous current draw must not exceed 48 A per axis simultaneously
  • Update firmware on both axes simultaneously to maintain synchronization
