Kollmorgen AKD-P04807-NBS
Product Introduction:
The AKD-P04807-NBS is a single-axis digital servo drive from Kollmorgen’s AKD-P product line, rated at 48 A continuous current and 7 kW output. The “NBS” configuration denotes a standard single-axis drive with CANopen communication, built-in braking chopper and braking resistor (no external components required), 24 VDC logic, and support for all standard Kollmorgen servo motor feedback protocols. The internal braking resistor is rated at 1.5 kW continuous.

Working Principle:
Three-phase AC input is rectified to a 325 VDC bus. IGBT-based PWM inverter stages synthesize three-phase sinusoidal currents for the servo motor. Three-loop cascade control (current/velocity/position) operates as in all AKD-P drives. During deceleration or overhauling loads, regenerative energy raises the DC bus voltage. The internal braking chopper activates when bus voltage exceeds 390 VDC, switching the braking resistor across the bus to dissipate energy. CANopen provides real-time command exchange with the host controller.
Functional Features:
- Autotuning for optimized PID gains
- Feedforward control (velocity, acceleration, torque)
- Electronic gear ratio: 1:1 to 10000:1
- Trapezoidal and S-curve profile generation
- Electronic camming (up to 32 segments)
- Safe Torque Off (STO) per IEC 61800-5-2
- Fault logging with timestamped diagnostics
- Internal resistor eliminates external braking resistor wiring
Advantages:
- Built-in braking resistor — zero external components for regeneration
- Simplest installation of all 4807 variants — plug and play
- CANopen interface for wide PLC compatibility
- 48 A continuous current for largest servo motors
- Wide bus voltage range (200–540 VDC)
Applicable Industries:
- Metal cutting machines
- Presses and stampers
- Large conveyor systems
- Plastic injection molding
- Heavy-duty packaging machines
Installation Requirements:
- Mount vertically with 100 mm clearance above and below
- Connect 3-phase 380–480 VAC power (min 6 mm² copper wire)
- Connect 24 VDC logic power (max 2 A)
- Ground chassis to PE
- Encoder cable max 30 m (EnDat 2.2)
- No external braking resistor required — internal resistor is pre-installed
Usage Notes:
- Internal 1.5 kW resistor handles moderate regeneration duty (up to ~30% of cycle time)
- For high-regeneration duty (>30%), external resistor is still recommended
- Verify motor inductance is within 0.5–5.0 mH range
- Configure current limit to 110% of motor rated current
