Working Principle:
The AKD-P drive receives position/velocity/torque commands via EtherCAT. The internal DSP (Texas Instruments TMS320F28379D or equivalent) executes three nested control loops: current loop (innermost, 32 kHz), velocity loop (middle, 16 kHz), and position loop (outermost, 16 kHz). The EnDat 2.2 encoder provides absolute position feedback. The IGBT inverter converts DC bus voltage to three-phase AC with sinusoidal PWM to drive the motor.

Advantages & Highlights:

  • Highest performance in AKD family — 32 kHz current loop, 16 kHz position loop
  • EtherCAT native support — no external gateway needed
  • EnDat 2.2 absolute feedback — eliminates homing, fastest startup
  • Extensive built-in motion functions — reduces PLC programming load
  • Compact footprint — high power density

Applicable Industries:

  • High-speed packaging machines
  • Semiconductor wafer handling
  • CNC machining (milling, turning)
  • Robotics (articulated arms, SCARA)
  • Printing presses
  • Textile machinery
  • Medical device manufacturing

Installation Requirements:

  • Mount vertically with adequate clearance (minimum 100mm above, 50mm below for airflow)
  • Connect DC bus with properly rated cable (min. 6 mm² for 2.4 kW)
  • Connect motor phases with shielded cable (max 10m recommended)
  • Connect EtherCAT cable (Cat5e/Cat6, shielded, with RJ45 connectors)
  • Ground chassis to protective earth (PE)

Usage Notes:

  • Perform auto-tuning before first operation — do not skip motor identification
  • Set current limit to 110% of motor rated current during tuning
  • Use shielded EtherCAT cable in high-EMI environments
  • Update firmware via Kollmorgen Workbench before commissioning
  • STO function requires external 24V contactor if SIL 3 is mandated
