Kollmorgen AKD-P02406-NCE

Model Number: AKD-P02406-NCE

Product Overview:
The AKD-P02406-NCE is a 2.4 kW (3 HP) AKD-P servo drive. The “NCE” suffix indicates EtherCAT + CANopen command interface with EnDat 2.2 single-turn absolute encoder and EtherCAT secondary feedback for distributed I/O expansion. This variant is optimized for systems requiring extensive distributed I/O over EtherCAT.

Functional Features:

  • EtherCAT Distributed Clock (DC) synchronization — all axes synchronized to < 1 µs
  • EnDat 2.2 absolute encoder — no homing required
  • Extensive distributed I/O — eliminate external I/O modules
  • Web guide and flying shear built-in
  • Auto-tuning with one-button motor ID
  • Electronic cam: up to 32 tables, 256:1 gear ratio

Performance Parameters:

  • EtherCAT Cycle Time: 250 µs (1 kHz) to 1 ms (500 Hz) configurable
  • Distributed I/O Update: Synchronous with EtherCAT cycle
  • Positioning Accuracy: ±1 EnDat count (±0.044°)
  • Multi-axis jitter: < 100 ns (with DC mode)

Material Composition:

  • Same as AKD-P02406-NCP
  • EtherCAT PHY: Beckhoff ET1100 or equivalent, integrated

Structural Features:

  • Same AKD-P form factor
  • Two EtherCAT ports: one for motion (to controller), one for I/O (to couplers)
  • Front panel: 4-digit display, 4 LEDs
  • DIN rail or panel mount

Working Principle:
The drive executes motion control using EnDat 2.2 feedback at 16 kHz. Simultaneously, the EtherCAT port handles distributed I/O data in the same cycle. The Beckhoff ET1100 EtherCAT slave controller manages all EtherCAT frame processing. Distributed I/O couplers (EK1100, EK1122) connect remote digital/analog I/O modules to the EtherCAT network.

Advantages & Highlights:

  • Maximum I/O flexibility — up to 1024 I/O points on one EtherCAT line
  • Eliminates external I/O racks — reduces cabinet space and wiring
  • Full EtherCAT performance for motion + I/O simultaneously
  • Synchronized I/O with motion — deterministic behavior

Applicable Industries:

  • Large packaging lines with many sensors/actuators
  • Print shops with multiple print heads
  • Automotive body shops (welding, sealing)
  • Steel mills (continuous casting, rolling)
  • Any application with high I/O count requirements

Installation Requirements:

  • Connect EtherCAT cable (Cat5e/Cat6, shielded) to master controller
  • Connect second EtherCAT cable to I/O coupler chain
  • Configure EtherCAT stations in Workbench with correct PDO mapping
  • Set distributed clock parameters for multi-axis sync

Usage Notes:

  • Use shielded EtherCAT cable throughout — do not mix with power cables
  • Terminate EtherCAT line with 120Ω at each end (master and last slave)
  • Configure PDO mapping carefully — wrong mapping causes lost I/O
  • Keep EtherCAT I/O cycle time ≥ 1 ms for reliability with many slaves
