Functional Features:

  • EtherCAT FSoE safety — safety over EtherCAT, no separate safety bus
  • Distributed Clock (DC) — <1μs synchronization across 100+ axes
  • CoE / FoE / SoE — full EtherCAT protocol stack
  • Hot-connect — axes can be added/removed without power cycle
  • AX5000 compatibility — migrates to Beckhoff AX5000 platform seamlessly

Working Principle: EtherCAT master sends process data every 250μs. Drive’s EtherCAT slave controller updates setpoints synchronously via Distributed Clock. Inner servo loops (current 20kHz → velocity 4kHz → position 1kHz) execute autonomously between EtherCAT cycles.

Advantages:

  • Ultra-low jitter — <1μs for multi-axis coordination
  • Single cable — power + data over one Ethernet cable
  • FSoE safety — eliminates safety relay wiring
  • Scalable — daisy-chain unlimited axes on one segment

Applicable Industries:

  • High-speed packaging (>200 ppm)
  • Semiconductor wafer handling
  • CNC multi-axis machines
  • Robotics (6-axis+ arms)
  • Printing presses (web offset)

Installation Requirements:

  • DIN rail 35mm mounting
  • EtherCAT cable: CAT5e shielded, max 100m between devices
  • Use EK1100 or EK1110 coupler for branch connections
  • Terminate last device with 100Ω resistor

Usage Notes:

  • Configure via AKD Workbench or TwinCAT (Beckhoff)
  • Set Distributed Clock shift values per axis for phase alignment
  • Use FSoE safety device descriptor (FMMU) for safety I/O mapping
