Functional Features:
- EtherCAT FSoE safety — safety over EtherCAT, no separate safety bus
- Distributed Clock (DC) — <1μs synchronization across 100+ axes
- CoE / FoE / SoE — full EtherCAT protocol stack
- Hot-connect — axes can be added/removed without power cycle
- AX5000 compatibility — migrates to Beckhoff AX5000 platform seamlessly
Working Principle: EtherCAT master sends process data every 250μs. Drive’s EtherCAT slave controller updates setpoints synchronously via Distributed Clock. Inner servo loops (current 20kHz → velocity 4kHz → position 1kHz) execute autonomously between EtherCAT cycles.
Advantages:
- Ultra-low jitter — <1μs for multi-axis coordination
- Single cable — power + data over one Ethernet cable
- FSoE safety — eliminates safety relay wiring
- Scalable — daisy-chain unlimited axes on one segment
Applicable Industries:
- High-speed packaging (>200 ppm)
- Semiconductor wafer handling
- CNC multi-axis machines
- Robotics (6-axis+ arms)
- Printing presses (web offset)
Installation Requirements:
- DIN rail 35mm mounting
- EtherCAT cable: CAT5e shielded, max 100m between devices
- Use EK1100 or EK1110 coupler for branch connections
- Terminate last device with 100Ω resistor
Usage Notes:
- Configure via AKD Workbench or TwinCAT (Beckhoff)
- Set Distributed Clock shift values per axis for phase alignment
- Use FSoE safety device descriptor (FMMU) for safety I/O mapping
