Kollmorgen AKD-P01207-NBCR

Product Name: AKD Series Servo Drive, Position Indexer, 12 A, 240/480 V AC, with Regenerative Resistor
Product Introduction: Very similar to AKD-P01207-NBC but “R” at the end explicitly denotes internal regenerative braking resistor included. This avoids needing an external resistor for moderate regenerative loads.

Detailed content

Technical Specifications:
  • Same electrical core as AKD-P01207-NBC:
    • 12 A continuous, 36 A peak
    • 240/480 V AC input
    • ~8 kW
    • Built-in position indexer
    • Feedback: Resolver/SineCos/EnDat/etc. (NBCR config)
  • Added: Internal brake resistor mounted within drive chassis.
Functional Features:
  • Regen management: Internal resistor dissipates decel energy up to drive’s rated regen capacity.
  • Reduced panel space: No external resistor cabinet space needed for light regen apps.
  • Same tuning/commissioning tools as AKD family.
Material & Structure:
  • Enclosure: Slightly deeper or vented section for resistor thermal dissipation.
  • Resistor: Wirewound high-power element with thermal cutoff.
Working Principle:
During motor deceleration, kinetic energy returns to DC bus; when bus voltage rises above threshold, internal IGBT switches resistor across bus to dissipate energy as heat, protecting bus capacitors.
Application Scenarios:
Vertical axis (counterbalance insufficient), frequent start-stop cycles, unwinders/rewinders with moderate regen, packaging machines with cyclic motion.
Installation Requirements:
  • Ensure ventilation around drive — internal resistor generates heat; ambient temp derating may apply.
  • Still possible to add external resistor if internal insufficient (parallel regen paths supported).
Usage Precautions:
  • Internal resistor has limited energy capacity (watt-seconds/Joules) — continuous heavy regen will overheat; monitor drive fault “Regen Limit”.
  • Do not block top/bottom vents.
  • If “R” unit replaced by non-R, must add external resistor.
