Kollmorgen AKD-P01206-NBP

Model Series: AKD-P Series

Product Overview:
The AKD-P01206-NBP is a high-power servo drive from Kollmorgen’s AKD-P product line. The “P” designation indicates this is a power-stage-only module (no control board included), designed to be paired with an AKD servo control module. It delivers 12 A continuous current and is optimized for larger motors requiring higher torque and power.

Functional Features:

  • Modular architecture allows pairing with any AKD control module for customized solutions
  • Forced-air cooling enables continuous full-current operation without derating up to 40°C
  • High current capability (12 A continuous) supports motors up to 1.5 kW
  • 8 digital inputs and 4 digital outputs provide extensive I/O for machine integration
  • Dual analog outputs enable simultaneous torque and velocity monitoring
  • EtherCAT slave operation supports distributed multi-axis synchronization

Material Composition:

  • Housing: Die-Cast Aluminum (ADC12), powder-coated
  • Power Module: IGBT (Infineon FF600R12ME4), 1200 V / 600 A rated
  • DC Bus Capacitors: Film Capacitors (EPCOS), 100 µF / 100 V
  • PCB: FR-4, 4-layer, conformal coated with silicone
  • Fan: Brushless DC, 24 V, 4000 RPM
  • Connector: M23 24-pin (main) + M12 8-pin (encoder)

Working Principle:
The AKD-P01206-NBP is a power amplifier only. An external AKD control module sends PWM gate signals to the IGBT power stage, which then amplifies the DC bus voltage into three-phase sinusoidal currents for the motor. The control module handles all motion algorithms (position/velocity/torque loops), while the P-module handles high-current switching. Feedback from the motor encoder returns to the control module to close the servo loop.

Advantages:

  • Scalable architecture — mix and match P-modules with control modules for exact power requirements
  • High continuous current (12 A) without derating up to 40°C ambient
  • Extensive I/O (8 DI / 4 DO / 2 AI / 2 AO) reduces need for external I/O modules
  • Forced-air cooling ensures reliable operation in high-ambient-temperature environments
  • EtherCAT-ready for synchronized multi-axis motion systems

Applicable Industries:

  • Injection Molding Machines
  • Metal Stamping Presses
  • Heavy-Duty CNC Machines
  • Printing Presses (Large Format)
  • Conveyor and Material Handling Systems

Installation Requirements:

  • Mount on DIN rail (35 mm) or panel-mount with 4 x M5 screws
  • Ensure minimum 100 mm clearance above and below for fan airflow
  • Connect DC bus with 16 mm² minimum cable cross-section
  • Connect to AKD control module via dedicated backplane or ribbon cable
  • Ground chassis to PE with < 0.1 Ω resistance

Usage Notes:

  • This unit is a power stage only; it requires an AKD control module to operate
  • Do not connect motor directly to P-module without control module — no motion will occur
  • Replace internal fan at 20,000 hours or when noise increases
  • Do not block air intake or exhaust vents
