Working Principle:
Same cascade control architecture as AKD-B series. The “M” configuration adds an integrated motion controller (PLC-like) on the drive, enabling standalone operation without an external controller. The drive executes motion profiles (trapezoidal, S-curve) internally. The multi-turn absolute encoder (MCE) provides position data including absolute position across power cycles (no homing required). EtherCAT enables coordination with other axes in a multi-axis system.
Key Advantages:
- Built-in motion controller — eliminates need for separate PLC for single-axis applications
- Multi-turn absolute — position retained across power cycles
- Compact size — smallest in AKD family for 300W class
- Cost-optimized — ideal for machine builders needing high performance at lower cost
- EtherCAT support — seamless integration into EtherCAT motion systems
Applicable Industries:
- Small CNC machines
- Pick-and-place machines
- Conveyor systems
- Labeling machines
- Textile machines (single axis)
- Medical devices
Installation Requirements:
- Same as AKD-B series, with reduced space requirements
- Ensure 50 mm clearance minimum for ventilation
- Multi-turn encoder cable: use shielded twisted pair, max 50 m (EnDat); BiSS up to 10 m
- Ground all shields at drive end only
Usage Notes:
- Use Kollmorgen WorkBench for configuration and tuning
- Built-in I/O can be mapped via EtherCAT or locally via DIP switches/software
- Multi-turn encoder battery: verify battery life (typically 10+ years for EnDat; no battery for BiSS)
- Do not mix motor feedback types — MCE drive requires MCE-compatible encoder
