Kollmorgen AKD-B02407-NBA

Overview:
The AKD-B02407-NBA is a compact, high-performance servo drive from the Kollmorgen AKD product family. The model code decodes as: AKD (AKD Series) + B (240 VAC input) + 024 (240 VAC nominal) + 07 (7 A continuous) + N (no line filter) + B (base functionality) + A (standard configuration). This drive is designed for OEM integration into machines requiring precise motion control with a small footprint.

Structural Features:

  • Ultra-compact chassis-mount or DIN-rail mount design
  • Integrated EtherCAT connector (RJ45)
  • Plug-in terminal blocks for power, motor, encoder, and I/O
  • Single LED status indicator (multi-color)
  • Conformal-coated PCB for humidity resistance

Working Principle:
The AKD-B02407-NBA implements a space-vector modulation (SVM) inverter with field-oriented control (FOC). The drive samples three-phase motor currents at 16 kHz, performs Clarke-Park transformations, and regulates d-q axis currents independently. Velocity and position loops execute at 1 kHz, synchronized to the EtherCAT distributed clock for deterministic motion across multi-axis systems. The STO function uses a dual-channel safety circuit to remove torque-producing current within 5 ms.

Advantages:

  • Smallest footprint in the AKD family — ideal for space-constrained OEM designs
  • 16 kHz current loop — excellent torque bandwidth for the size class
  • No external line filter required (N variant) — reduces BOM cost
  • EtherCAT native — plug-and-play with Kollmorgen and third-party EtherCAT masters
  • Integrated safety — eliminates need for external safety contactors in many applications

Applicable Industries:
Medical devices, laboratory automation, semiconductor handling, small robotics, 3D printers, textile machinery, food and beverage packaging.

Installation Requirements:

  • Mount with at least 30 mm clearance on top and bottom for heat dissipation
  • Use shielded twisted-pair cables for encoder (max 25 m for incremental, 50 m for EnDat)
  • Connect protective earth (PE) to chassis ground
  • For 1-phase input, verify input current does not exceed 16 A at 200 VAC

Usage Precautions:

  • Do not block ventilation slots — overheating will trigger thermal shutdown
  • Configure brake resistor in drive parameters even if not currently connected (to prevent DC bus overvoltage on deceleration)
  • Match feedback device type in drive parameters before first energization
  • Maximum ambient temperature: 45°C (derate current 1.5%/°C above 35°C)
