Kollmorgen 6SM-56-L-3000
Model Series: SM56 Series (Ironless Linear Motors)
Product Introduction:
The 6SM-56-L-3000 is an ironless (coreless) linear servo motor from the SM56 product family. The “L” designation confirms linear configuration, and “3000” indicates a 3,000 mm (3 meter) stroke length. Ironless construction eliminates cogging force and eddy current losses, enabling ultra-smooth motion at very low speeds.

Structural Features:
- Ironless forcer coil: Wound directly on a non-magnetic former, zero cogging force
- Halbach magnet array: On the magnet track for maximum flux density in the air gap
- Pre-loaded recirculating ball bearing carriage: Integrated into forcer for smooth linear guidance
- Continuous magnet track: Full-length NdFeB magnet array with steel backing
- Glass scale encoder: Mounted on magnet track for absolute position reference
Working Principle:
Lorentz force principle: current flowing through the forcer coils interacts with the permanent magnet field on the track, producing linear force. Ironless construction eliminates iron losses and cogging, enabling force ripple below 1% of continuous force.
Advantages:
- Zero cogging force: enables sub-micron positioning at very low speeds
- High acceleration: >100 m/s² achievable
- No wear particles (ironless): ideal for cleanroom applications
- Maintenance-free operation (no brush wear)
Applicable Industries:
- Semiconductor wafer inspection and handling
- Flat panel display manufacturing
- Medical device automation
- Laser cutting and engraving
- High-precision metrology
Installation Requirements:
- Magnet track must be mounted on a precision-ground flat surface: flatness <0.05 mm over full length
- Forcer must be aligned parallel to track: <0.02 mm over 3,000 mm
- Cable carrier required for forcer cable management (3,000 mm travel)
- Ambient temperature must not exceed 40°C for continuous force rating
Usage Notes:
- Do not allow forcer to impact end stops at full speed; use mechanical dampers
- Glass scale must be protected from chipping; handle with care during installation
- Derate continuous force by 20% for operation above 35°C ambient
